Warning! Npower fix for free, information incorrect by c.s

Warning, please check your tariff rates if you've switch tariffs on fix for free.

Received my tariff rates for electricity and basically, I've been mislead/ mis sold or just plain lied to by operative at NPower( No suprises there after reading gas scuplt thread)

The new rates for electric alone would have increased my annual bill by £200 and I haven't received gas tariff yet. Fortunately still with in the 14 day cooling off period have notified Npower( customer services were  horrified and apologied, said this would be flagged up as training issue) and will now revert back to my original tariff.

Original Post:-
In light of the current recomendations from Martin to switch to a fixed tariff deal for gas and electricity, this link may be interesting to all npower customers.

http://www.npower.com/web/fix4free/index.htm

I saw this(see link above) a few weeks ago and thought the tarriff would be more expensive than my current tariff(Duel fuel online 8) and discounted it. After reading a few threads posted on gas and electricity board regarding fixed prices, I decided to ring freephone no. and enquire about this offer.

Npower confirmed I could fix my current tariff without any additional charges and remain on current 28 day rolling contract. :j

The cheapest current fixed tariff deal would cost me £210 more per annum, which means I'm in a win-win situation. :D If rates go up I'm fixed without paying increased tariffs associated with fixed tariff deal  and if rates drop I can still switch. :T

I was already an E-on customer, so changed to their price protection tariff yesterday - it costs me another 75p a month, which I didn't think was too bad and it doesn't change my monthly DD charge. It's lasts til Oct 2009 and it doesn't cost me anything to get out of it and the prices will go down if the standard prices go down, but won't go above what I'm paying now. It was quite a relief with all these stories going round of scary price increases that i won't be paying any month for well over another year!

I suppose its good if you are not in one of their home areas such as yorkshire / midlands, prices are fixed at standard rates. standard rates for the 2 areas mentioned are quite expensive compared to most. You also need to take account of their tarrif year :) ie you pay upto a max of 4572 kwh tier 1 per few to several months, instead of a real year (12 months) max of 4572. ie. you are very likely to pay more than 4572 kwh tier 1 in a 12 month period, means expensive :)

I asked about the gas sculpting(which I think your refering to in your post) and I was told they don't do gas sculting anymore. And my last bill seemed to confirm gas sculpting is not being applied to my account.

Yes they are gas sculpting, have a look at the times newspaper saturday 24/05/08, npower spokesman etc.... They do not tell you everything, quite often, especially over the telephone...

Current gas sculpt commenced nov 07 and is ongoing.....

If you are so sure you are not being sculpted, then get it in writing from them.. good luck.

From my understanding of gas sculpting, please feel free to correct me if I've got the wrong end of the stick. During the winter months you are charged a high level of units at tier 1, to compensate for low consumption during summer.

My recent bill for the period Dec to April, tier 1 units were charged on a pro rata basis, so I'm pretty sure my account isn't being sculpted.
