Browsing History not working

Im using IE7 and Windows Vista and my browsing history no longer records. The only IE addons I have (to my knowledge) are Google toolbar and McAfee SiteAdvisor. I use AVG Anti-virus, MS Office, Betfair Poker......and thats pretty much it!!!

I remember a few years ago under XP something similar happened, but I have no idea what caused it or what fixed it.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

The way I fixed it was to reset IE7.

    Tools/Internet Options/Advanced/Reset.

It deletes all of your history, and any passwords etc that youve asked it to remember.

Out of interest, did it happen around the time you upgraded to AVG 8.0? It did me but the AVG people werent interested, as they said it hadnt happened to anyone else.

I think that method would delete other things such as cookies and cache (might not be a problem, but...)

Alternatively, you should be able to change the number of days the browsing history is stored without resetting everything.

Just go to 'Tools' => 'Internet Options'.

In the 'General' section, go to 'Browsing History' and select the settings button. Then just increase the number of days the history is stored for. I assume its at zero or something at the mo.

I tried upping and downing the number of days history is stored, but it had no effect.

Yes it will delete cache and cookies, but at least its working again now.

My days history is set to 20.

I tried the reset. No effect , except I lost google/yahoo toolbars.

I'm also getting the runonce -save your settings screen up everytime but it never seems to complete. Also seem to be getting more yellow triangle 'done with errors'.

No, have not upgraded to AVG 8. Might have to revert to ie6 or use firefox instead. Although I'd prefer IE history to be working.

update - I have stopped runonce re-appearing and got google toolbar back

I have discovered that it sort of seems to be storing it but not displaying it.

All that is displayed are those under 'my computer' box - eg pdf I have opened, bbc iplayer logger

However if I do a search history and put in 'money' for instance it comes up with a list of some pages I have looked at on here.

Although I went to sons school page and then put school name in search history box it found a load of another pages that may have part of his school name located on the page but not the page I visited.
It looks like it is just searching stored temporary pages , as I deleted those files and tried search again and it is not there.
