Haven Caravan Sites in North Wales

We've decided to use our Tesco vouchers for a Haven holiday this year and at the moment I'm looking at the Haven sites of Hafan Y Mor and Greenacres in one of my favourites parts of the world!
Before I book can anyone provide any feedback about either of these sites for a family holiday including a 10 and 3 year old?
I know that Hafan is larger and has more facilities but Greenacres looks like it may be in a nicer position and teh pitch and putt appeals to the 10 yr old (and me ;-)
Also does anyone have any views on the relative merits of a Superior Plus caravan versus a Comfort Plus Chalet (both 3 bed) which is the choice at Hafan. The only choice at Greenacres is the Prestige caravan.
Many Thanks

Hafan y Mawr is huge- busy, our accommodation at different times was ok, clean, ample, suited its purpose, (all apartments- sorry cant say for caravans) but all three times have been fine, If you are staying self catering(aptmnt) you will probably be situated at the lower end of the park quite a lil jaunt from the "board walk " and main facilities, caravans too I think.
IF staying Half board you will be nearer the entertainments and reception and accomodation standards are again fine,
Green Acre's I cannot comment on apart from it was once one of " British Holiday's" ( now Haven) premier site's, alot smaller in size than Hafan Y Mawr, and no Half Board Restaurant, less crowded and more of an Owners park,( I felt) .. There are some lovely locations around the park itself , and its far quieter, and like Hafan Y Mawr there isnt a great deal to do within a little walking distance unless you have a car.. but with a beach like Black rock, what more do you need??? !
Hope you find this ok, I know I havent answered your questions about accomodation much, but thought it might have helped you a little.BSC Member #97- Discharged 4/2/09

I would say avoid Hafan y Mor, when we went a few years ago it was disgusting. We stayed in an apartment, the shower was broken, taps weren't working, the sofa's were dirty, duvets had blood stains on them and there were pairs of dirty knickers behind the tv and the bed .
Greenacres however from what i remember was the total opposite.Virgin CC=£2652, Next= [STRIKE]£102.88,[/STRIKE] Very=£475.60, Natwest=£800, Sainsburys CC=£1777.02, Lloyds CC=£498.29, Lloyds Loan= £13,946.18, Car=£4000Total = [STRIKE]£26,147.23[/STRIKE] £23,849.09:eek:0 -
We stayed in Hafan Y Mor at easter as a change from Greenacres ,have to say we hated every minute of it and left 2 days early .
Accomodation was filthy ,apartments felt like you were staying in a concentration camp
Lots of entertainment but so packed out every night I couldnt wait to escape.
Greenacres on the other hand is the total opposite p:peaceful (but not too quiet ,a good amount of leisure facilities ) ,good ,clean accomodation. We have been back 4 years in a row.
A s you already know, cant go wrong with the area , snowdonia is absolutely breathtaking.

Many thanks for your comments folks which i've found really useful and enlightening!
Funnily enough, Greenacres would be my first choice based on personal preference for the location and gorgeous looking beach and also based on a presumption that it would be quieter but I kinda thought that my 10 year old would much prefer Hafan Y Mor for the apparently greater variety of activities - Lo and behold but given the choice HE has plumped for Greenacres too so that looks like the choice at this point.
Many thanks for your insights and for any further feedback that anyone else can offer :-)0 -
We rented a private Pine Lodge at Hafan Y Mor but we also used the restaurant for breakfast and dinner because we couldn't be bothered to cook. The restaurant food for us adults was borderline acceptable but the kids loved it.
We stayed at the beach end of the park and it took us about 10 minutes to stroll up to the restaurant. When walking to the restaurant we saw the Gold chalets that we considered staying in and some of them were a state.
But the real story came when we checked out. The main reception doles out keys for the private caravans and lodges and I was returning the keys at the end of our stay. I was queuing behind a family who complained of about 8 major faults with their Gold caravan. The receptionist assured them that they would be dealt with and the family left. Before serving me she picked up the phone and called maintenance. But she only reported 2 faults and then put the phone down. Needless to say I wasn't impressed. The man without a signature.0 -
The bigger the camp the more chance of bad reports. Hence a higher number of bad reports for Hafan-y-mor than Greenacres.
In general its always pot-luck with Haven as to whether you get a good caravan/chalet or a poor one. The best way is to book a private one if you can.
I have been to Hafan-y-mor in a silver apartment and it was fine, well equiped and clean. The beach at the site is very good too ( a lot of people staying don't realise there is one ).
I would choose a chalet/apartment over a caravan any day. Lots more room and proper full size beds. The bathrooms are usually much bigger and better too ( You are very lucky if you get a decent shower in a caravan).0 -
Try online holiday review sites for the parks to see a larger amount of user opininons like Holiday Watchdog. Greenacres seems to be more popular however its a smaller park so less activities, depends if you want a clean quiet park or a busy half board park.
