Virgin box wrong time

My virgin box (standard) seems to have got stuck at 06.03 Monday 26 May. Whenever I go into tv guide it will show what should be on now for a few seconds and then goes to no programme information, catch up on demand is a nightmare because all the dates are last week (although the programmes are current).

I've been into settings and nowhere does there appear to be a change date/time? I turn the box off every night and it usually doesnt get turned on again until 7pm and I can't figure out what else to do really?

Have you reset it? Switch it off at the plug, leave it 30 seconds and then reboot it (are you just switching if off normally overnight?).

If that doesn't help, you're going to have to get in touch with them...

How long have you had the box? Mine went funny after about 4 months, they sent an engineer next day and he just replaced it with a new one, no charge :)

The box has to pull the time down from the VM server.

Also the box has to pull the EPG data down from the server to the box, so each time you switch it off for hours when you switch it back on you'll have to wait a while whilst it populates the EPG again. On cable the EPG data is downloaded to the boxes memory, this is why it's often slow, takes a while to update and due to cable still having old boxes on the network on has limited data.

Try resetting your Virgin set-top box.
Simply remove the power cable and plug it back in, the box then should re start and boot, once the boot has completed then the box should wonload the correct time.
If the problem still is present after a reboot please call faults on 151 from any Virgin phone

...or if you also have VM broadband, use their excellent support via newsgroups.

A VM customer. Wouldn't say fan as there are some aspects of the service I'm not 100% happy with, but their support via the newsgroups has always been very good.

If you dont mind me asking what is your beef with Virgin?!
I have to say, I have had issues with them but been with them for 7 years and I pay £50 for every TV channel, v+ box, 2nd standard set top box, 20MB of broadband, soon to become 50MB and talk unlimited.
I am only with them as they offer all 3 services at a good rate, have 24hr broadband support and they have urgent telephony repairs service

I'm on a retentions deal for as long as I remain a customer, so I'm happy with that.

The STM and now it's extended nationwide can be a bit of a pain, I'd rather they'd improve the infrastructure than advertise unlimited all you can eat broadband when they throttle your service - granted I've only fell foul a couple of times and that was through testing, but I don't like misleading advertising of a product.

Their phone calls are the dearest around for chargeable calls - at one time cable used to be half the price of BT, but for 6+ years they have been the dearest. OK, I'm not paying for line rental or the calls package and put the non-inclusive calls and non-free calls out over VoIP as cable are a rip-off for them, but it would be simpler and I wouldn't need an ATA if they offered competitive call charges.

The lack of some channels (though I also have satellite - only the 200 free channels).

The lack of HD channels, being promised more HD channels would come when all we have is BBC HD and a handful of HD VOD that there's only so many times you can watch the same couple of dozen programme.

The V+ box being slow and clunky and at around 01:00 for anywhere between 3 and 30 minutes the box ignoring the remote control or buttons on the box.

Also when flicking through the mini-guide to see what's on (without changing channels) having to wait a second or two for the info to pop up for each channel, where this is instant on satellite.

Not having dynamic EPG like satellite, so if programme are running late or early the box would record the programme, on cable they only update the EPG about 4 times and the box expects programmes to run to schedule. On satellite channels can update the EPG on-the-fly so if a programme is early the box can kick in early, if the programme is late it carries on recording even if it's just 30 seconds or a couple of minutes to last minute programme changes.

Annoying instances where the box states there's a programme clash, where it could simply adjust the padding and there would be no problem.

Cable could have a good service if only they would implement it much better.

I have 4 hour priority repair for the phone line, but then I also had priority repair when on BT, they have to offer the service.

This happened to me the other day. I just switched the box off the the wall, waited 30 seconds, switched it back on and all was fine. :)

    Thanks guys - sorted now.

I must admit I find it annoying when I put a channel number in my remote and it comes with the info but doesnt change the channel, I press ok and it says it cant set a reminder as the programme has already started. So I press the tv button, put the channel number in again and then it works! Has anyone else had that problem?

Ive switched from sky and still prefer sky to be honest - I miss my programme planner for weeks in advance mainly. I also find the catch up service annoyingly inconsistent - one week it will save paul o'grady one day but not the rest, the next week nothing and the same for other programmes.

    Anyway, original problem solved.
