How's your daughter getting on at High School? and how's your brother? Has he found a new job?

    Regards

SMF2 - DD is absolutely loving it and making new friends, she and existing friend went with 2 new ones to cinema on Saturday.... I think the rate of "growing up" is about to accelerate somewhat, hoping it remains as positive as now :A

Need to call Brother, he had a few interviews having been back from holiday so I guess nothing so far (although he doesn't call that often...). Hoping their finances are ok but it's not something they discuss in terms of their mortgage (primarily IO) etc and although I sent the household budgeting spreadsheet some time ago, I don't discuss as we are in very contrasting positions now, and our being so close to MF wouldn't be seen positively from their current perspective I think.

Well done & yay to FSAPL (one of mine :T:T:T) - maybe if I list them all on here their updates will magically appear to save me looking :o. Sorting out my pension fund, and also OH's, is on my Oct to do list. !!!!, that starts tomorrow

I do hope you've got these in a Trustnet portfolio as it is free and you can either look, or it'll send you a weekly update on your position. I love it!

Glad DD is loving HS - my 2 both love it too. We are looking for a sixth form for our eldest and have been discussing what A levels he's going to do. All though I wouldn't say so to him - I'm abit disappointed 'cos he doesn't seem that keen to keep up his science subjects. I'd thought (hoped) that maybe he would do Chemistry and Biology but he seems more keen to do English, Geography and take on Economics (which would be new to him) and also maths. (He doesn't want to do maths that much but he should do it if he wants to do Economics). Shame - don't know why he doesn't want to do Chemistry I think it's fascinating:o It's important he does what he wants however.

I can speak to my eldest sister for hours and she would never, ever mention her financial situation. She could have millions saved or owe millions I just don't know. Most people I know never talk about money, which I suppose is why I like coming on MSE. The setmefrees talk about money all the time LOL....

That sounds just what I'm after Stuart. Need to seriously set some time aside. Busy this weekend & want to hire a carpet cleaner following weekend, then we're on holiday , so looking at end Oct which actually suits me as am a little uncomfortable about how positive things are on the stock exchange .

Glad DD enjoying things, it's a very exciting time for her :)

My OH & I could also talk about money for hours (usually bickering about who's getting the best deal from the other :rotfl:), but friends don't, although I think they all need pointed in the direction of the debt free board before they make it onto here :o
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

.... what, is it October already?

That caught me out, checked the current a/c and initially wondered why the balance wasn't quite as expected :o

So with the payment £2950 on the 28 Sept, today a further £650 has been dropped into the mortgage, so we owe.......

    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .......... just £10350 :j
Best dig out the docs on the sealing fee so I know the total needed :j
I feel the finishing line must be coming into view soon, which is a great feeling :D:D:D

    Hi SMF2

Don't mean to poke my nose in, but what's your reasoning for this?

I did both 2 years ago and can definately say you don't need to do them in conjunction with each other.

    Cheers

I did Chemistry, Maths & Business Studies A levels. I really wanted to do Chemistry and English (with Business Studies) but had to choose since there was a timetable clash. I can categorically say I made the wrong choice and opted for the much harder (and less interesting for me :o) path.

I also agree with another poster re: Economics (which I later studied at uni) and Maths. One really has to love Maths to study it at A Level IMO and as long as one's numerate, the statistics & graphical elements within Economics will be manageable. It is vital to love the subjects one chooses for A Level, as you have already realised. :)

English, Geography & Economics sound much more interesting and dare I say, probably easier to achieve the highest grades!

    Hi

Some Unis ask for a Maths A2 level to do Economics but not all - I'm trying to encourage my eldest not to close down his options too soon. It may be that he doesn't want to carry on with Maths after AS level but at least he would have the AS in Maths (which is worth having on its own).

Thx for your interest - all views and opinions are warmly welcomed honest :D ESPECIALLY if you think I'm making a mistake or am just plain wrong!

Thx for your post and interest. It's very helpful. I had already decided to try and say as little as possible and let him make up his own mind and what you have said confirms that this would indeed be the right approach.

Yesterday after school I took DS to WH Smith and we spent a good hour looking at all the AS and A2 books to give him an idea of what each subject entails. It was really useful because the English Language looked pretty awful and not what you might expect. So he will probably opt for English Lang plus Lit or just straight Lit.

The reason I am trying to encourage him to do Maths with Economics is so that he doesn't close down his options, as some Unis ask for Maths to get on their Economics course.

But you are right, he must do what he wants 'cos ultimately *gulp*;) it's his life and he has to work out how best to live it

PLUS I hadn't even thought of timetable clashes.....

    Thx
