My OH is contemplating doing a PhD. Trouble is we are tied by location currently. So I'm not sure if he'll find one. It also needs to be funded, which is a problem.

Is there an option for OH to do so part-time with support from employer e.g. via the Open University? The latter is designed for distance learning so may solve the location issue. You need to think about the time this will take on you and family over say 3-5yrs and what OH sees as the benefit at the end (it can simply be personal, or, it may be improved job - not necessarily salary). Good luck in resolving it.

Its primarily a personal issue and is also in the hope for an improved job (though thats not the be all and end all). He is only on a one year contract at work now and is looking to leave. But I know ideally he'd like to do a full time PhD...he's had bad experiences splitting his time between work and study!

Nevermind though, he'll figure something out. It's just that crossroads he's at where he needs to make a decision - I think it's a now or never type of thing. He's also left it a bit late to start applying for PhD's I think really.

Coming from another chap that is a bit below the belt :D Yes it has knocked me back and it (or Tamiflu) has left me quite tired so the holiday (in Mexico....) will be much needed.

Was in work today, felt tired even when I arrived at 0630 and especially in the afternoon, but hoping it will ease up. I guess my real concern should be that I need more colleagues to have it over the summer otherwise they may all be ill in the autumn leaving only a few of us who've had H1N1 to keep everything going!

Remember this thread does not constitute financial advice!

Just realised one positive thing about H1N1; it saved me 6 days of commuting so about £52 of petrol.

Hope this isn't controversial but I noticed on another thread you writing about the dumbing down of qualifications...my eldest is half way through his GCSEs which includes tripal science and I can honestly say that I don't think there has been any dumbing down. The tripal science is highly demanding imho and unrelenting (as my son has exams every term), the maths is as difficult ( or easy;)) as anything we ever did, music is also difficult. With the exception of languages - I love the way subjects are taught these days. I do hate the way the press try to undermine kids achievements... I'll get off my soap box now cid_013601c7759154e3ee40f1b54046you.gif :D
