Hi Stuart, great news on the positive financial position. I hope the news for you wife is good; hope you don't mind but I'm going to drop you a PM with some details of an insurance company - my father had a severe lung condition and my parents struggled terribly to either find a company to insure him and/or one that wasn't going to cost far in excess of the holiday itself.
My mother eventually found a great one and the staff/service was great while she took the policy out; sadly they had to make a claim as dad became too ill to travel and again the insurance company were great and paid out straight away (literally with a couple of days) so as I say I'll PM you the details
Regards

Very much appreciated. Wife saw consultant who is very interested in resolving it (i.e. he is keen to work on a difficult case which is great!) and we are best to describe as asthma for insurance until they can resolve but it's going to be months I think.
I'm still in Denver (before you think I'm up at a silly hour!), it was >70F on Friday but snow today and 42F max... The first case of swine flu was just announced in Colorado, hope I can still fly home this week unless the world goes into chaos like SARS

Yes, the irony of it is not lost on me
As we go in the summer, it will likely have been cleared by then, certainly I think the tour company are still expecting us to pay the balance....
Nearly time for dinner...

Back in the UK.... jet lag/time difference and there was someone on flight who had been in Mexico and was unwell - so medical team on board on landing etc. Can you believe work has told me to stay and work from home tomorrow because of it? I guess on the positive side it save 54miles on the car and 2 gallons of petrol
Anyway to MSE matters; the Funds ISAs are still improving at a sharp rate but is it a bear rally or a bull market now? The pundits seem split but anyway for us it means the S&S ISA Funds are "only" down 26.76% with growth since end of Feb being significant. This will help give confidence in October to pay off mortgage as despite low cash reserves if these funds are strong then they can cover for a couple of months as we ramp up cash savings.
Whilst abroad I caught a bit of the budget news, need to do a formal check on the BBC web site (thanks FB for the link) to see the impact. However, from 2010 the good news is the increase in the ISA allowances to £10200 each so that two should cover most of what we can save between us each year once MF. I guess it will be a case of checking Cash ISA rates vs. other options too.
I am in a quandary regarding my signature; mortgage payment (inc OP) not yet left account nor indeed the extra-OP, and so we are presently net positive on the offset which should generate interest at 0.53% less tax. So what should I put in my signature for the effective interest rate? I'll mull this once payments have gone out.
Things have improved on the savings too (although they are about to be hit with the need to pay holiday balance) as we put £1561 into them this month plus the usual £650 to mortgage, so finances are now really starting to improve with our total net position accounting for mortgage and all assets is about £5300 positive :j:j:j0 -
Your lucky we've had emails round to say travelers to mexico/southern us to spend seven days work from home on return.0

Similar at my work too...
If you've been in Mexico - voluntarily exclude yourself from work for 5 calendar days from return.
If having flu symptoms phone GP or NHS24 and if symptoms are confirmed as flu like the member of staff is asked to voluntarily exclude themselves from the workplace until they are fit to return.
Well done for having a positive mortgage balance! :T Does this mean you are MF ie positive balance from now on or will you still dip into the negative at some point this month?Mortgage free as of 12/08/20!
