Oh me too. I'd never actually be able to give up my car however close to home I worked, as I do actually enjoy driving, I'd just like to have the choice.

I'd have a classic, would really love an old Split Screen VW van, but a nice example is around the £15-£20k mark, and nowhere near reliable or economic enough. One that we can go camping in as a family.

We're gutted that the buggy has to go, but with only 2 seats, we haven't actually been out in it for almost 2 years (since I was pregnant - that was fun getting in and out of). We'll have to look for something else in a few years, when the mortgage isn't so much of a tie and we have more disposal cash and the kids (only one atm, but sure that won't be the case in the future) are older.:rotfl:

I'm with you on that :D

That'll be one of the first things we'll treat ourselves to when we clear the mortgage....or win the lottery....whichever is sooner:rolleyes:....yeah think I had the order right the first time too :rotfl:

Good to hear the car now appears to be sorted, I wonder sometimes whether they are more trouble than they are worth. I'm sure if I didn't have to drive so far to work, I'd seriously consider getting shot of mine completely. Fingers crossed this will be the last thing tha goes on yours and will take you cheaply through until you are ready for your XF.

Me too, but it does at least mean my spreadsheet has some numbers which are realistic for car running costs
Regarding your stocks (that came out as socks first time:rotfl: ) I don't really understand these at all. Although we have an equity ISA our IFA deals with the make up of the portfolio. The only thing I'm aware of is its not worth as much as has been put into it, the same with DS CTF (but then I'm not bothered about that as I do't really agree with it:rolleyes: ).

A difficult one to answer here, and I didn't find the Saving & Investment board anywhere near as friendly as here... If you are using an IFA they should basically be discussing your financial position and plans for the future then guiding you on the basis of your risk tolerance etc. However, why not start reading around the topic, even if you don't drop the IFA (and I don't have time for individual equities I use funds, but in view of future annual investments may need professional advice) you will be well armed to discuss specifics at your next review?
Keep up the good work, you'll be MF before you know itm, and all the hard work will have been worth it. Although I'm not really sure what you'll do to keep yourself occupied if your not planning how to be MF (BTL anyone?)

Well I would be returning from the pub now on a Friday (no the car would not have been there!) but still not 100% well so gave it a miss tonight.

I envisage my time will be taken with learning more about different investment vehicles that I can have in the S&S ISAs, review of OEICs etc etc, but where will I post my thoughts? :o

BTL, I think I can say is very unlikely, but investing in some of the vehicles which invest in the commercial property sector may be on the cards later on...

Now, just need to find those socks :D

SMF2 that was very nicely said, thanks, but yes I do like a nice car, but I should probably be more "keen" on washing it down in mid-Winter :o

Work for me is 27.5 miles each way (it is normal to quote to that accuracy, isn't it? :o:o:o) with no public transport option, so I'll need a vehicle whilst I keep working. However wife works 1.5miles from home and cycles, so I guess it evens out?

I think you have to love tinkering if you run a classic vehicle; I grew up riding pillion on my Father's Douglas Dragonfly flat twin motorcycle (1957 vintage) which was great fun. He is still involved in the classic bike club but couldn't get insurance after a heart attack at 48yrs old; he could of course get insurance on a very powerful car if he'd wanted it - totally mad system!
We're gutted that the buggy has to go, but with only 2 seats, we haven't actually been out in it for almost 2 years (since I was pregnant - that was fun getting in and out of).

Sounds to me that a 2+2 is on order as we speak; Aston Martin Vantage perhaps?

Hope everything works out, and enjoy the "planning" of it ;):o:o:o

I was about to note how nice the new style applied to the forum was, then, there it was gone!

Guess someone is playing with the CSS etc?

Thanks to all for the posts above, now I'll post the note I "really" came here to do.

Just had my payslip with increased salary figure, so that is firstly nice to see and secondly means I need to look at how we use this additional income. Likely in the short-term to keep most as extra cash saving but may drop some in the S&S ISAs. Thinking to freeze the Russia & Greater Russia fund for now and look at getting some money into fund focused on US markets... my thinking being that the world will remain low until the US picks up, so its markets should pick up before others. Anyway UK Smaller Co and Latin American are equal in performance presently.

Now the headline grabber; I dialed in the data for the closing market prices on the S&S ISAs and added in my pay which will be in the account on Monday and....

    cue drum roll,
    cue hesitation for suspense....

we find that our total net position is for the first time POSITIVE :j:j:j:j

OK, this is temporary ahead of credit card bill etc and it is only £510 positive but it is really nice to see this. Effective interest rate will be 0.77% as we'll only incur interest on 15.38% of the capital too :D

OH suggested we could open a beer but the champagne would have to wait - a bit too MSE methinks!
