Hi we are going to scotland in august for 5 nights, ive booked the flights and car hire but am trying to find an mse way for accomodation.
Ive looked at the scottish youth hostel website but it says they are primarily for young people and we are in our late 30s and early 40s,does anyone have any experience of syha or something similar.
We stayed at the ymca in cornwall at the beginning of the week and that was great, they had older people from different countries and that gave me the idea for the scottish trip
Im from glasgow but i want to go further up to the west coast and round by aviemore as i used to work there, ive looked at visit.com for b+bs but they seem a bit expensive, there are lots of hostels i like the look of but im not sure if im allowed to book
Any suggestions please

hi thankyou for your comment,i would still like to hear from anyone who has stayed at a syha as i dont want to be an old fuddy duddy with no one else there of a similar age group.Or suggestions for somewhere else worth staying at

hi jackiegibbo
I used to work for SYHA and the age range of people visiting the hostel was always very varied. This was at Edinburgh Central Hostel though which is fairly new and is more like a hotel than a hostel! But i have met plenty of older people who have been hostelling in Scotland for years and love it.
Yes there can be big groups of school kids or teenagers at times but maybe you could ask the hostel you want to go to if there are any big school groups staying there when you want to stay??
Also i have stayed at Aviemore hostel before and most of the other people there were older, i think its popular with climbers and walkers.
I hope this helps0 -

We got a really good deal on the innkeeper's lodge at Balloch, Loch Lomond. B&B for 20 something pounds per night for a family room, double bed and a sofa bed. It had a shower rather than a bath, but was a nice room.
We liked it so much we've booked into the same chain in Canterbury later on this year.
If you get the dates right, it seems to be a long term offer that you can stay Friday and Saturday then get Sunday night free.

http://www.innkeeperslodge.com/scotland.asp Perth is a good base for exploring the rest of Scotland - close to motorways and the A9. 3 nights B&B for £110 from 22nd August. Can be cancelled up to 1pm on day of arrival. I think that's pretty cheap. The breakfasts are only continental, toast OJ, jams, cereal, yoghurt fruit etc.Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19
