Marrying a Chinese person

Hi all,
If a U.K. person marries a Chinese person, what documentation is needed and what is the process one should go through? What proof do you need from the foreign person?
I understand you need:
1) Birth Certificate.
2) Passport.
3) Proof from the country that the person is not already married.
How do you get a definitive list of all the requirements so that the person can go back to China and get them all in a single trip?
What's the best way to approach this from a cost-saving point of view? I know that sometimes when trying to get in touch with embassies they are expensive 09 numbers and would prefer you to take a trip down to London and wait half a day and see them in person.
Thanx

Speaking from a professional point of view, you first need to ensure that the person you are attempting to bring into the UK is allowed to be here. You ideally need to speak to INEB - The Immigration and Nationality Enquiry Bureau. They will advise you what you need to ensure the marriage does not flag up as a "fake" or a marriage of convenience.

Just because the person is marrying a Brit Cit does not automatically grant entry clearance into the UK therefore a visa will be needed and once married, a spouse visa application will have to be submitted IN TIME.;)I am not a complete idiot - some parts are missing;)0 -

Thanks. The person is already in the U.K. on a Highly Skilled Migrant Visa and as it lasts 5 years, can apply for permanent residence at the end of it anyway.

Hi AMO
I married a Canadian. I needed to get permission to marry from the Immigration called a Certificate of Approval and could only get married in designated registry offices, as far as I recall slimshady2357 only needed his passport but to be honest we've been through so many hoops that he may well have had to send in his b'cert. He only had to sign a declaration that he had never been married.
The best thing to do is read the official website - immigration is now called UK Border Agency - as things change so much very quickly.
Good luck
