I know a few people who have done this, they got a relative to adopt the dog(in their name) they had the house check etc.

Just went to look at a puppy

I was shocked by the conditions, £200 no wormed no injections nothing, the owner admitted they are back street breeders in it just for the money.. couldnt even see the parents

Going to see another pup tomorrow a brindle jack russell 11 weeks old, wormed, de-fleaed and £125.00, working parents on a farm, this sounds more hopeful as i can view the parents

I know how much you want a pup BUT please please please if you are going to buy one, make sure you are going to be buying from a reputable breeder, not just someone whos female dog wasnt spayed and got caught so a litter is available as pets.

Here where I live there's been a spate of JRT's being sold as miniatures (cos they are the latest must have) where as come 6 months its as obvious as the nose on your face you have a normal sized JRT and guess what the pound if full off? None of these so called breeders are accredited, the pups arent registered - nor the parents - yet people keep parting with hard earned money and keep these back yard breeders in money and business.

I know this sounds ridiculous ut we went to the big name dogs homes - RSPCA and the NCDL and we were declined both times becasue we were living in a ground floor flat and we have a communal garden. We had everything in account - we were after a small dog, had money aside for jabs/neutering/food/bowls/etc - had looked at insurance and had a list of ones to look at once we knew details etc. also because we had a 2 year old we were flatly rejected.

Anyway when we visited the RSPCA they told us of a little rehoming centre that wasnt a big named place that rehomed dogs adn all teh dogs were good conditions and needing a loving family.

We went to visit and although conditions they were living in looked like somethign from auschwitz 9seriously - rustly looking metal gates on the kennels, sawdust floors with the plastic beds in, and animals bowls) the dogs were immaculate and it was clearly visible that they were loved and looked after there but they had no goverment funding (hence the look of the place) they were really good in helping us find the right dog, werent bothered that we had a small child but knew which dogs were good with kids, and which werent etc.

i would reccommend looking for smalelr rescues - they need the help with rehoming animals jsut as much and are in need of the help too (ie financially if you adopt the animal)

Yep - the little rescue we adopted from and support has lots of jacks in - well terriers in general. Our Jack Russell Bruno was given up there because at 3 years old the owner (who'd had him since a pup) had discovered he was just too hyperactive. :eek: um........HELLO! TERRIER!!!!!

We've just discovered that he is a pedigree too (we asked a local breeder to have a look after the vet mentioned she thought he was a pedigree - we thought he was a a heinz with more of the jack gene becasue we'd never seen an All white jack before - turns out we were wrong). Anyway as soon as we mentioned it to a friend, her reaction was 'well if I adopt a girly Jack we can breed them' - :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: . Yes and while im at it I'll look to breed my 4 year old son too. :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad:

Not on my life will I breed my dog - hes not a puppy machine. I hate people who are in it to make a few quid through their supposed pets.

Awww thanks all for your advice..

The only reason i wanted a JRT is because it's they type of dogs i grew up with, i didn't even realise they were the 'latest fashion' - how sad is that..

I loved the ones i saw last night but seeing the surroundings and knowing they were backstreet breeders made me walk away.

I won't be buying a puppy if i am not happy,

although i have been buying essentials today, as it's better to have them now before you get your dog, be prepared, even the OH is getting involved and has been to B & Q this morning buying the materials to make a safe puppy pen.

been to the dogs home this morning to walk adam the lovely jrt we met yesterday, we won't be adopting adam as he has too many problems that i don't feel i would be the best person to help him with, but i made a commitment yesterday that i would be back today to walk him.

Picked up lots of leaflets about dogs, and been reading hints and tips of bringing a puppy into your home

Hopefully will see more puppies today, but I'm seeing it as window shopping until i find the right one.

Why don't you get your OH to do the paperwork? That way you rehome a dog instead of supporting puppy farming.
