Driving from Nice to Marbella - help needed

Hi all

I'm looking to drive from Nice to Marbella next week over the course of a week and need to fit in stops along the way.

When we've crossed into Spain, I'd like to spend a couple of days in Barcelona, a day in Valencia and a day possibly around Alicante so that leaves me with an 8 hour journey from Nice to Barcelona that needs breaking up with one or two stops along the south of France.

I don't know the south of France well at all - looking at the map there is Marseille, Nimes, Montpellier and Perpignan as obvious stops - but are any to be avoided or recommended for stopping at?

Thanks

Thoroughly recommend Montpellier. University town with plenty of things to see and do and 20 mins to the beach. It's well worth taking a look at the Petit Camargue area with flamingos, white horses and bulls. Beach at this time of the year is not crowded too. The old part of the town centre is beautiful with its Grand Place and pedestrianised streets.

Nimes is beautiful with the arenes and some great architecture etc . Can't help you with the other two as I have never been but heard great things about both. Don't think you can go far wrong with any of these planned stop offs. Check out www.viamichelin.com to help you plan the route if you need it.

Let me know if you need other info.

Another vote for Nimes and the Camargue - lovely historic town and interesting area. Arles is conveniently between the two but Nimes is a more interesting place. Pont du Gard well worth a visit too. Another interesting town is Aigues Mortes, a lovely walled town.

You will see flamingos everywhere in the Camargue but to see lots go here
