I hope I'm putting this on the right thread but here goes - I'm not techie at all and need some clue as to what exactly I should be asking and searching for please.
In my local comet store, they have a reduced priced scanner (can do negatives aswell as photo's) because it's end of line (I think) and they've lost the power cable. The manager said it needs a high power/speed (?!) cable, reckoned it would cost about £15 - £20. I spoke to the makers and they said it has an adaptor with it and is actually £40 to replace it! "You need a power cable and adaptor".
The electric point on the back of the scanner has "DC15.2V1.2A" on it which I'm pretty sure is the voltage. If I can locate a reasonably priced power cable which will work with it, then this is a real bargain and a half - I haven't got it yet tho' as it's subject to finding out about the power source! I've tried searching on ebay and web in general but I'm just head-scratching - I don't really know what I should be asking for! Can any of you techie's help me with this one please. The scanner is an Epson 1670 perfection.
From what I've figured, it needs a "high power/speed" adaptor which is 15v and hard to find! Is there some techie name or details I should be using so people know what I'm looking for? I hope I'm making sense here! Any explanations or suggestions welcome.

Had a look at the spec. for the scanner. The High Speed is the Interface - not the PSU.
The interface is USB2 (not the slower USB1.1), it has a USB type B connector on it. You would need a cable that goes between your USB on the PC (which I think is Type A), so you would need an A to B USB cable.
The scanner SHOULD be backwards compatible with USB1.1 if you have an older PC (over a year or two), just means it would operate slower transferring data.
Power, yes it sounds like you need a Power supply that will give you 15 volts DC 1.2 Amps minimum. You may be able to buy a power supply from the likes of Maplins. What you need is a DC power supply or power adaptor. This will convert the 230V AC mains to 15V DC. You will, of course, also need the correct power connector to attach into the scanner itself!
What you are looking for is the likes of http://rswww.com/cgi-bin/bv/rswww/subRangeAction.do?catoid=-1600753133&cacheID=ukie in fact looking at it this one might actually be the one you need!
It all sounds a bit complicated, is it really that much cheaper?0 -
Wilko's or Woolies also do cheap universal adapters - worth checking them out, or Argos0

Thanks everyone for your replies.
Yes, it is more complicated than I thought it would be!! I am after a scanner that can do the negatives aswell and this seemed to be too good to be true - they are selling it at £25, which is half their last selling price. (I've seen it priced at £70-£80 elsewhere.) I've since been back and got them to try one of their multi-ended adaptors in it and none of them fit the scanners port so given it up as a bad job - seems epson have made them so you have to use theirs or else! (Shame but was worth a try tho' ... )0 -
