All she's entitled to is the damage repaired 100%.

    No.

She is entitled to be reimbursed for all her expenses incurred as a result of the incident as posted previously.

And most people would be wary of using the guilty party's garage to keep costs low.

You want the job done where you are happiest, as well as getting a guarantee from the repairer, as well as an agreement that any damage discovered when the car is stripped and examined will be paid by the third party (as is normal when further damage is discovered when a car is being repaired under a normal insurance claim).

I do understand the OPs point though - a couple of days after I passed my test I scraped a car in the work car park. It was a teeny scratch - not even a dent. I got in touch with the driver and asked him to get a quote for the damage. He came back with £200 - so I asked that he get a quote somewhere else as I felt that was a bit steep. In the end he contacted my insurance company, who then asked him if they could send someone out to take a look before they'd pay up. Funnily enough, he refused, and his claim never came to anything. Didn't have any impact on my NCB either. I'd say it's only fair that the OP gets a quote from the garage of her choice, and that the other woman also gets one. Then maybe one from an independent garage?
Hope you get it sorted OP!

To the OP, i know you think your mate in the garage will do a good job but the other aprty doesnt know that.

My wife was reversed in to about a year ago and the other party said no problems i will get my mate to sort that "it only needs a new number plate and a bit of paint".

When I phoned him to ask who his mate was he told me "a guy down the road", but wouldnt tell me exactly where, so we went straight to the insurers, it actually needed a whole new front wraparound bumper (ford puma)..cant remember the cost but it was over £600.

My oint is the costs can mount so it may b best to go through insurance

Yes I know but my neighbour has met him, spoke to him about the damage, knows his home address & also has both his landline & mobile number. Her partner has also met the mechanic & to top it all off, he resides 5 minutes away from where we both live.

Unfortunately I can't claim on my insurance. My excess is 220 pounds & there is a extra 480 pound charge because I'm a young driver which its compulsory I pay so I'm better off paying out of my own pocket. :)

If she wants to go to another garage then fine. It's completely her choice but I would like to keep the price down. Please don't believe that by keeping the price down her vehicle will not be receiving quality workmanship because it will, to a very high standard; whatever garage she prefers. But my main concern is the price & findng a garage who won't "milk" this for all it's worth. Luckily I know where most of these "rip-off merchants" are; local ones anyway. I'm sure you all know what I'm on about, (the mechanic who's determined to replace your car door because there's paintwork damage and/or dent when another more reputable mechanic will fix the dent & paintwork for half the price) this is what I'm trying to avoid & the expense.

At a time like this I wish I had money:D

If any damage is discovered when the car is being repaired & it's not caused directly by the accident then I'm not paying for it. I'm paying for the damage I did to be repaired 100%; as I told the neighbour I would, & nothing more whether this be hire cars (she already has 2 cars), loss of earnings (she doesn't work) or psychological stress. Isn't going to happen.

I would calm it down if I were you. If you took that attitude with me I would just contact my insurance company and let them sort it out and bang goes any no claims discount.

Sorry but that isnt the attitude to take. following on from my post about my wifes puma, we have 2 cars but still needed a hire car as hers was in the garage for a week.

Your bill could still be more than your excess.

You say you can't claim on your insurance because of the high excess.

Why do you have to pay an excess? (You aren't claiming for your own damage are you?)

So you won't be making a claim.

Your missing the point of insurance

If she has a genuine claim for any of these she is entitled to claim it, as for you not getting insurance involved, it isnt your choice

If you took that attitude with me I would get them involved just to !!!! you off tbh

As for the damage only, and what if the damage leaves the car out of alignment or colour matched badly?

A woman hit our car minorly and did a small scratch, a simple paint job would have been a poor colour match and the bumper was out of alignment, the car in fact needed a part respreay as well as a new panel and bumper, this is what it took to get the car back to the condition it was before, simply repairing the damage may not do this

It is 100% your fault so just accept what she says or let insurance deal with it, these are your only 2 options here

I'm sorry if you seem offended by what I said & I apologise for that but Im not taking any attitude. I'm simply saying (maybe I worded it wrong) that I'm only paying for the damage caused by the accident, & not for any damage that isn't caused by the accident including what I said above.

I thought I would have to pay a excess when it's my fault because technically its a claim right?
