Late Tax Fine

Anyone help me with this one pleaseeee

I bought a Mini with the sole intention of ripping it apart to turn into a racer.

The seller sent the tax back and i asked the seller to tick the box SORN when getting his tax refund

He didnt tick this box :(

I checked the DVLA website and it said not liable (must have been still going thru the system)

2 weeks later i am hit with a 40 pound fine!

I couldnt declare it off road without a reminder or a V5 so how could i tax / sorn it?

I have wrote and complained but it didnt work :( I am still liable

Shall i now deny all knowledge of ever owning it!

It's possible he did, as you'd need to declare SORN on the car, as the DVLA site states it ends on change of owner.

    Yes you could - http://www.dvla.gov.uk/media/pdf/forms/v890.pdf

But you wrote to them about it, or are you going to deny that you wrote the letter?

You are responsible, not the previous owner, pay up.

Looks like you should have completed a V62 with the V890.

How to make a SORN (Statutory Off Road Notification)

Not yet registered as the vehicle keeper
If the vehicle isn’t already registered in your name, you must submit the Registration Certificate (your details completed in section six) with your SORN notification. If you don’t have the certificate, you must complete Form V62 ‘Application for a Registration Certificate (V5C)’ instead.

Seems a little unfair I know, but it seems to be your error.

How long between purchase and fine?

If you did actually strip it for rebuild you could try sending a photo in support but I doubt it would do much good.

I take it you didn't send in the tear off reg strip so you think you can deny ownership?

Unfortunately for you, (but correctly), the previous owner will have put your details on his return part. Do not try to deny ownership.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
  • Its not the fine, its more that the rule only seems to get innocent people.

Its a crazy rule, i havent used it on the roads and never will.

I thought the Goverment had to remind us?

They seem to have mis-laid my other SORN reciepts too and not posted them
