Invalid Parking Ticket?
Hi guys, long time lurker first time poster
I was wondering on your thoughts on this.....
I was parked at my local train station in a bay, perfectly within the white lines, i paid for my ticket and displayed it in the window and went to work. The ticket was valid until 18:30pm but when i came back at around 16:30pm i found a parking fine sitting on my window. It says that at 08:34am i had no valid parking ticket on display in my vehicle. I looked at my valid ticket, staring back at me through the window, in full view
Do i contest? i have the valid ticket etc, i have never been issued with one before, and its funny because i place my ticket in the same place on my car, and have been for the past 3 years. What should i do? If i contest it wouldn't i just have to pay more if they didn't throw it out? If i had broken any traffic offence i would hold my hands up, but i havent, the ticket was in full view, valid so i cannot understand it!

Depends you might have got a "Jobsworth" on that beat.
Some signs at the "Pay and Display" state the ticket must be visible at a certain side of the car either drivers side window or passengers side. But in my experience, most wardens don't care what side it's on as long as they don't need to walk on to the road to see it.
Best contest it, or write to the council telling them you did have a valid ticket and ask them for an explanation as to why the ticket was issued.Laters

It seems that it is a 'contracting company' working on behalf of the local council that issued the ticket. I have just written a letter, with photographs also stating my case. I am keeping onto my actually parking ticket though in case they 'mislay' it in the post then i don't have any evidence. I will send it off tomorrow registered first class post. Lets see what they say
i am sticking to my guns on this one:D

Look at this, you're one of the many that should/must appeal to stop this daylight robbery.
Council motoring fines 'illegal'
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7424955.stm
Some councils have earned hundreds of thousands of pounds by enforcing unlawful traffic and parking restrictions, the BBC has learned.
Fines are said to have been levied despite incorrect road markings and on parking bays which are too small.
"From a legal point of view, the term is unjust enrichment. And if the council unjustly enriches itself, it's got to pay the money back."
Nick Lester from London Councils, which represents authorities in the capital, argued that handing the cash back was not necessarily in the public interest.
Parking charge system 'medieval'
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7406254.stm
Britain's automated parking and traffic fines system has been branded "close to theft" and "medieval" by a Tory peer.
Of the millions of drivers fined per year, fewer than 1% appeal - many over incorrect road markings. About half of such appeals are upheld.
In such cases, councils have no duty to contact and refund other drivers fined wrongly in the same place - which Lord Lucas told the BBC was "exploitation".
He said recent changes to the rules, which say local authorities should not use the system of fining people and parking enforcement to raise revenue, were not being enforced.
"There is no way in which central government checks that this is what local authorities are doing," he said.
