Flight surcharge increase

Hi
partner just phoned to see he was listening to Chris Evans on radio 2 and he heard something about flight fuel surcharges going up very soon.
Now not sure if this is new announcement and where I am at mo can't find more out, he seems to think they said there was a extra £200 roughly going on long haul flights as of next month - is this correct?
Just that we had been planning on going to Thailand next Feb and had held off on booking flights - but if they are going up should I do so now? Or will they add the extra money on anyway?
he didn't hear whole article which is annoying so if anyone could enlighten me I would appreciate!!

just been on Sky News about BA increaseBritish Airways is increasing its fuel surcharge on all tickets issued from next Tuesday by up to £60, due to continuing high oil prices
The airline said the cost for each passenger for short-haul flights would rise by £3 per flight (or £6 for a return flight) to £16 (£32 return).
The surcharge for long haul flights of less than nine hours will increase by £15 per flight to £78 (£156 return - increase of £30).
Also, the charge on flights of more than nine hours will rise by £30 per flight to £109 (£218 return - increase of £60).
BA said it would also increase its fuel surcharges by similar levels in markets outside the UK.
The company's rival, Sir Richard Branson's airline Virgin Atlantic, announced fuel surcharge rises this week.
But the carrier said that those sitting at the front of the aircraft would face higher charges than those in economy-class seats at the back0 -
They'll all announce them now that "Mr Big" has.
The likes of Ryanair are sneaking them in disguised as new or increased charges - eg they recently increased the cost of checked luggage0 -
If the price of oil keeps going up the way it has been then this won't be the last fuel surcharge increase. This is the 2nd increase by BA and others in the last couple of months. Some airlines have dropped routes, a couple have gone bust and Silverjet are seriously struggling all due to the price of fuel at the moment:j Debt free since 31/01/08:j

Can anyone answer though why not just increase the price of the tickets instead of fleecing us with these extras?0

We booked a flight with AA and got a 15% discount. The tickets were £400 each but the discount was only £22 as the base fare was £150 with £250 fees and taxes.
Likewise we booked "free" reward flights with Virgin that actually cost us £300 each, mind, they were in Upper. It's a bl**dy con.The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0 -
Do a bit of simple arithmetic.
The "surcharge" on many flights is now actually more than the cost of the fuel !! Work that one out !0
