Tesco Personal Finance (ie Savings A/c)

Options
WARNING

When Tesco (realy Royal Bank of Scotland) send out their Rate Change notices, which happens several times a year, I tend to look at it and then drop it in the bin after all they appear to be 'safe'.

BE WARNED every 'rate change' notice has at the top your FULL ADDRESS, BANK SORT CODE and FULL ACCOUNT No.

I have phoned Tesco re. this rather foolish policy , but they will not change it.

We should all complain - this is not SAFE BANKING.

    But why?
Does that mean we should complain every time that banks send a statement in the mail?

Every time you give somebody a cheque it has the sort-code and full account number on it. So where is this so-called breach of security ?

  • Hi
My point is that I EXPECT to destroy/shred statments and other important documents, but these 'rate change' notices are 'junk mail' and in the past I have binned them whole without noticing the personal info that is included for no obvious reason - Other banks just send a list of changes with no security data.

But is it "security data" ? As I said above , it's printed on each of your cheques which can be sent out to any Tom, !!!!!! or Harry. I don't think that anyone has used this for identity fraud, otherwise the banks would not print cheques with that information on.

You put mail with your full address on in the bin? – that is not safe regardless if it has any other information or not.

Rate change notices aren’t really junk as you’d be a bit annoyed if they dropped a savings rate to 0.0001% or increased a loan rate to 10000% without telling you :)

I agree. You should not be selective in what you shred. I put everything with my name and address through the shredder, even empty envelopes.
