Whilst moving to a fixed price tarrif I took a look at our energy consuption, currently its averageing Gas - 7099 kwh / quarter, Electricity 2390 kwh / quarter, over the last 3 quaters (Spring, Winter, Autumn) and is for a 4 bed detached, with 2 adults (and a cat!) living in it. Having read other posts this seems a liitle high, esp for the electricity, can someone suggest a site which I could look up what our average consuption should be?

Think I may be investing in a power meter, so see where its all going, but I have a fair idea (PC's & Big TV's etc)!

Cheers,

Mike

This is one site, Mike, have to work it out for yourself.
Anything with a heating element. Ovens, high temperature clothes washing, tumble driers. Electric showers on a long time.
    More than one freezer.
New appliances are energy rated. AA, A, B and C.

Your gas is certainly not excessive; particularly for a 4 bed detached.

The UK average is 20,500kWh pa. with the low quarter to come(no heating - well not much!) you are looking at around 24,000kWh pa I suspect.

UK electricity average is 3,300kWh pa and you are looking at nearly 10,000kWh which is huge for no electrical heating and only 2 people. Size of house is not a factor.

Heating appliances are the culprits, dishwasher, dryer (I assume you don't use an immersion heater for hot water?)

Thanks both, will check out the ukpower site Ken. Cardew, no, we're fully gas heated and have a new condensing combi bolier, no immersion heater (or even hw tank!).

Certainly the electricity looks excessive, no better time than now to look into why!

    Cheers!
