Well then I better help her with allaying fears with regard to packing.
You are going to need a big box, which you'll probably have to cut down, one that has a base that is approx 8 inches longer and 8" wider than the framed picture. Probably a box from a TV or similar.
Get some polystyrene chips, ask around amongst friends, lots of companies receiving goods are glad to get rid of them.
At a push you can use multiple layers of bubble wrap... bubble wrap is FREE in Asda, Tesco etc, just help yourself to all the sheets that are used to seperate the fruit. Better still, get a member of staff to save you some, they'll have bag loads.
Anyway, put a layer approx 4" deep in box, then lay frame in box on bed of poly chips or bubble wrap. Now... TAKE A PICTURE
and use it in your listing explaining that......
"goods will be packed just as shown, on a 4" bed of poly chips, with a 4" border of poly chips and with another 4" layer of poly chips on top prior to sealing the box. This will ensure that entombed in a 4" thick cocoon of poly chips within a sturdy cardboard carton the goods arrive safely in one piece"
This will ensure buyers have no reservations with regard to shipping?
It's something I do, (thankfully having an infinite supply of poly chips) and I knowe it works.

Don't you mean 2003? Depends which code I suppose.0 -
Some rugby facts:
1999 Australia won the world cup, beating France 35-12 in the final.
2003 England won the world cup, beating Australia 20-17 in the final.
:rotfl: :T :j
So....if the shirt is from 1999, the value is likely to be higher than if it is from 2003 - winning is worth more than losing, generally speaking.
Secondly, whose signatures are there? Is it the team or the whole squad, does it include the coaches etc? If it is the team or squad, are any missing? If so, who? Does it come with a certificate of authenticity? Is it a replica shirt or an original? Was it worn by a player? If so, who, and in which match?
I would recommend further research into this item - don't just stick it on eBay for 99p. It's really important to list this as accurately as possible in order to maximise your profit. Where did your friend get it from? Can the source provide any further details or provenance?
I'm just trying to indicate that there are quite a few questions that need to be answered before your friend sells. The difference between a replica shirt with some signatures, and the one worn by the captain in the final signed by the whole squad and coaches, could be several hundred pounds. Obviously, that's a fairly extreme comparison, but you need to know where in the range your friend's shirt lies. There is a big market for sporting memorabilia.
On the other hand, you could just sell it to me. I'll give ya £50.00 for it.
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
we have had a similar problem with sporting memorabillia.
My hubby has an old cricket bat (1948 I think) which has been signed by the likes of Don Bradman and others known as 'The invincibles'.
However, due to age, unfortunately some of the signatures are faded badly so this must affect is value. We really havent got a clue so we have never dared list it. Any cricket buffs out there who might know?

I sent her a text to ask her for some more detail; apparently.. it's a rugby league world cup final winners 2000 shirt, signed by all the squad, in a frame with a team photo. It's never been worn and doesn't have a cretificate.
It all means nowt to me!!! I'd rather have a decent bar of chocolate

Ok, that's good start. I was quoting rugby union, not league when I gave the dates etc.
As a guess (and it is a guess!), the shirt and frame alone would be worth at least £100. Add the signatures, and I'd be surprised if it didn't make 2-3 times that amount. I'd agree with making it available on eBay.au, as rugby league is pretty big over there, proablably bigger than rugby union. If she does sell it on e-bay, can you post a link so we can be nosy and see how it goes?
I'm listing a nice big bar of chocolate this afternoon.....
:rotfl:
Edit: it would be worth looking up the squad on the internet (shouldn't be too tricky), and seeing if you can identify each signature. Name the squad members in the listing.
Edit II: Oh look, some nice person has done it (below) for ya!If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

A Certificate of authenticity isn't worth the paper it is written on, so don't fret.
A quick bit of research and this should be the winning squad, which should enable you to cross reference signatures (usually illegible)
If any signatures are unidentified.... It should be an easy task to get the coaches etc.

If there are some that are too illegible to read, try looking up individual autographs of those you've got left, and seeing what they look like. Eliminate the obvious first! If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0
