Hi there,
We're installing a new heating system in our 1 bed flat soon (we have ancient storage heaters and immersion tanks), and have come across the following link from 4ecotips that says that gas prices will shoot up in the next few years, meaning that electric heating systems are much more economical.
The research is funded by Dimplex, BUT - fellow moneysavers, is it TRUE? Argh!

Good question, something I wondered about recently when I thought about replacing my electric shower with one that runs off the combi boiler. I do believe that it costs more (currently) to heat water with electricity than it does with gas but the article might have some valid points regarding overal cost of ownership of a gas heated house (maintenance, safety checks) compared to electricity.
The article might be right in saying that natural gas prices will increase but if that's the case then I would imagine electric costs to increase as well0 -
Remember that most of the power stations are gas powered so you can bet on electric going up as well0

however if nucleur takes off well then perhaps that may change, but its unlikly.
The cheapest to run is probably solar heating but thats a big big outlay, other than that insulate insulate insulate.0 -
Thank you very much, Batmen and Batgirls!
I hadn't factored in how the power stations themselves are powered. Doh!
With the rising prices in both forms of heating, I reckon Turk3y's right - insulate insulate insulate!
Not looking forward to the next price hoik (Hoik?) coming up but will try and get rizzo towers insulated by wintertime.
Thanks again!

Saw on the news tonight.Gas going up 20% in the summer and another 30% in the winter.Really cant see how they can justify it.I'm fitting a woodburner before winter.0
