Indemnity Claim with Nationwide

I had to put in an indemnity claim yesterday with Nationwide as ScottishPower had closed my account and taken the final bill out by direct debit when they weren't meant too.
ScottishPower admit their mistake and will even refund any charges that I may incur... but my problem is Nationwide said that the money taken out (£50) will go back into my account in 48 hours!!!!!!
It's pay day tomorrow and being a bankrupt I am having to budget my account closely, so I have £3.84 in my account until tomorrow. Luckily I do get paid, but how comes it takes 48 hours to put the money back???
This situation was out of my control and now I have lost £50 for a matter of 4 days, it sucks!

The DD guarantee states
The Direct Debit Guarantee- If the amounts to be paid or the payment dates change, the organisation collecting the payment will notify you normally 10 working days in advance of your account being debited or as otherwise agreed
- If an error is made by the organisation or your bank or building society, you are guaranteed a full and immediate refund from your branch of the amount paid
- You can cancel a Direct Debit at any time by contacting your bank or building society. We also recommend you notify the organisation concerned.
When i worked at abbey we aimed for same day as part of the guarantee and when requests came from the call centre on the fax machine they were picked up and processed in the back office straight away.I beep for Robins - Beep Beep

Well I have just checked my account and the money has been refunded, I reckon it was more like 24 hours... still not that good seeing as though they should have the means to credit my account immediately.0

As your Avatar, the DD Guarantee is only paid lip service to these days.
Most people who've invoked the Guarantee will consider you have had amazingly speedy treatment. A lot of Banks will send the Indemnity forms off to the originator's Bank and not credit you until they get the money - a matter of weeks in most cases. And BACS - who allegedly monitor the Guarantee - aren't exactly putting themselves out in order to get the spirit and the practice back into what should be 'immediate'.If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0
