I got a lovely bird table for my new house about 2 weeks ago and filled it with yummy scrummy nuts, seed and bread but ive come to the conclusion that the birds in this area must be blind coz not one has even come for a sniff or a look around!
How do i get them to come to my garden?? any ideas?

Normally takes them a while to find a new food source, give them time.
If its a new build estate the birds do take a while to come back after all the disruption.
ps this time of year there is more natural food source about so their not looking too hard. Be patient. You'll be surprised when it all takes off.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

You could also check to see if a neighbours cat is sitting aroung with a knife and fork waiting as this could have a detrimental effect.0

I agree, this might be a reason for the no show. Is your bird table in the middle of the garden, well away from any bushes/shrubs where cats might hide:rolleyes: ?
Birds tend to do a regular circuit of feeding stations in the neighbourhood. All it takes is for one bird to spot your banquet and soon they'll all be regular visitors.
If you don't already have one, putting a bird bath in the garden is also a good idea. The birds will drink and some will bathe there.......making your garden an attractive stop off point.
Don't put too much food on the table, birds are very messy eaters and it will go off before it's all eaten. Our little visitors delight in flicking seeds all over the place. In our garden the favourite food is sunflower hearts (with the black striped shell removed) followed by fat balls and lastly peanuts.
We buy the sunflower seeds and peanuts from a small pet shop (not one of the big chains;) ) in bulk and store in large plastic containers in the shed..........to avoid attracting mice to the food store.10 Dec 2007 - Led Zeppelin - I was there. :j [/COLOR]:cool2: I wear my 50 (gold/red/white) blood donations pin badge with pride. They took ages to come into our garden a couple of years when we put new squirrel proof feeders out!
I buy all the food from Haiths (online) and although during the summer there is an abundance of natural food around I still put out peanuts which they are able to peck at and take to their babies. It's been really lovely watching the babies come, when old enough to fly, and just wait for Mum to get a mouth full of pecked peanuts and pop them into their beaks! The squalling noise though made the dog bark! lol
So don't give up. Be patient and they'll eventually come. It may take a month or more but they'll be watching.......................:)0 -
Hi,
The RSPB website has lots of information on attracting birds into your garden, from what to feed when, positioning the bird table, plants that birds like etc..

We put a new bird table in the garden this year and I got really dis-heartened when we had had no birds for about three weeks. One day the garden was just filled with birds. I put food on the table, a couple of hanging things and some on the ground underneath the table for the bigger birds that frequent our garden. Be patient, they will find your table and you will soon be enjoying watching them. We have ducks, a cat and a dog and they all tolerate each other well in the garden. Our birds especially enjoy pears cut up and pecking at apples cut in half.0
