Are Building Regs Required

Hi All,

Quick and simple question I hope.

I have removed an airing cupboard from our bathroom and built a small stud wall, approx. 1.2m, where to airing cupboard was.

Should I have engaged with Building Control prior to carrying out this work? We are now considering selling the house and are concerned that this may cause problems.

Kind Regards,
Dave

I would say no. Without knowing exactly what you have done, I can't see why BC would want to know. Something like an airing cupboard would be unlikely to be recorded in any searches on your house, only major things like knocking out a supporting wall etc... would come up on the search. Put it this way, would anyone know what you've done from looking at it? Is it dangerous? If the answer is no to both then it won't be a problem.

I was in a similar situation last year and was told I would be asked directly at point of selling if ANY works had been done including any that concerned the removal or building of any walls.

    Of course......I hadn't.
