That rather depends on your definition of a long way off. I'm sure that suitable boxes will appear when the HD transmissions start.
It should also be noted that HD Freeview will require new equipment to receive HD transmissions.
That's why I mentioned HD. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Which will doubtless upset people who have integrated Freeview TVs that wont (I assume) get the HD progs when they do eventually arrive
2009 apparently for Freeview HD (well BBC anyway)
BBC HD is not currently available on digital terrestrial (Freeview) because there is not enough bandwidth in the signal. Plans are in development that may make it possible to get HD on Freeview from around 2009, provided you upgrade to an HD Freeview box at that time.

If cost isn't an issue, sky+ all the way for me. It's easy to use, unlike a lot of DVD-Rec/PVR's. I use my Pioneer HDD/DVD recorder a lot and it works most of the time but I wouldn't bother trying to show anyone how to use it! The other thing with sky+ is the stingy hard disk size and if you want to archive the program to a DVD recorder, obviously you need another box and have to do it real time. As someone has mentioned above HD Freesat boxes with PVR should be out in the next few months if Freesat takes off. I can't help feeling it's off to a shaky start as hardly anyone knows about it.0

I only found out recently that if your record something on a Sky+ box, then change your subscription, you can't watch the recorded program if you don't have the channel any more! What a con.
Freeview all the way for me. I have a Thompson DHD4000, which you can't buy any more. Its a fab twin tuner box. The Humax are supposed to be good though.0 -
We got a Humax 9200T for my outlaws a couple of years ago - they're really pleased with it. We have Sky + which also works really well (so I'm told by Lady G!) As mentioned by others, also get BBand on top.I'm mad!!!! :rotfl::jand celebrating everyday every year!!!0

How big (or should that be small?) is the sky+ hard drive?
Also, once recorded on to sky+ can you then transfer it to a Hard Drive recorder easily if you wanted to keep it?0 -

If you're in a cable area there is also V+ to consider. Better device than Sky+ in my opinion except the menus aren't quite as quick. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0
