Please can someone help me !!

I had a direct debit returned from my account yesterday for Aol at £14.99. And on the very same day I have had a £38 charge taken out for the same direct debit being returned.
Not only does the charge say " Charges unpaid direct debit Aol access service £14.99" But it is the only returned direct debit from that account I've ever had since opening it.
Are banks not required to give written notice of any charges first?
The bank is Natwest.
Also I made a payment to BT using the Payment service online through this bank on 23rd May, and I've now had my service susspended by BT as they say they have not received it.
My statement clearly shows it coming out of my account.
I work from home and need my phone line for work, I'm due back tomorrow and I'm not going to be able to work because of this late payment.

Can someone help me please?
I cant contact Natwest any other way that leaving feedback and I cant call BT to fix any of this, I'm going to loose my job too and it's all bloody Natwests fault.
What can I do Please help me I'm desperate

You know, I was about to ask the same question about crapwest!!!

I thought they had to give notice about deducting charges rather than just do it there and then. What I find even more annoying in my case (and I will be calling them this afternoon) is that money was transfered into my account on the same bl88dy day and this transfer is listed first on my statement with the "bounced" DD's and charges listed later. A merry total of £176 in charges when the damn money was there....

I have opened a new and better account elsewhere! Just need some guidance before I call them this afternoon.

    The same here!!
    My Balance was £1.05
I had a cheque go into my account for £25. (Balance £26.05)
Then Aol Access service £14.99 (£11.06)
Then Return of Aol Access service -£14.99 (£26.05)
Then £38 charges for Aol Access service returned unpaid. (-£11.95)

Fair enough cheques take a long long time to go through, but the balance has taken it into account already or it would be -£36.95?

Can anyone tell me if the bank can take charges out the same day?

Right so after taking a look at their T&C's it seems they can do this.
It isn't fair. They have taken me overdrawn now so I suppose the snowball of charges is about to begin.
I have got no food in or anything. I'm at a point where I just dont want to be here any more.
I had a small life line in a cheque I paid into my account, but thats gone along with any oppertunity to get some food in.
The people who decide to take the charges do it knowing they can probably look forward to more profits from their customer.
I feel sick to think £38 to a bank is worth more than going hungry for yet another day.
It really does make me sick.
