alternative to plastering ceiling

Basically all of my ceilings in my house upstairs are cracked, it was like this when i got the house, its due to stupid people putting stuff in the loft without thinking, i think

Anyway after looking at costs of getting a plasterer in i was wondering if there are any alternatives to the traditional approach.

I would also like to install down lighters in to each ceiling, i can do this myself though :)

Thanks

Depends how bad the cracks are - Polycell do a crack free ceiling paint which is thicker than normal paint (contains some filler I think) which helps to seal and cover cracks. I've used this and found it pretty good - its nicely sealed a nasty crack in the downstairs cloakroom ceiling which was getting on for 2mm wide in places.

  • its an odd one, the plaster is blistering in odd places!

Do they still plaster ceilings in new builds?
