Advice please!!!! :(

Options
Hi everyone,

This is a bit long, so please bear with me!

Basically, I left a full time office job back in December, it was just too stressful and I hated it! A colleague and I decided to try and work for ourselves doing markets and buyin and selling off of ebay. Anyway, things haven't worked out and I am now £100 away from my £1000 overdraft limit and going to start getting charges! I have another £120 loan (bank loan) to come out on the 15th June, plus all other direct debits. I have been living off of my credit card and trying to find part time jobs, but to no avail yet!

We have tried a few markets with our jewellery, sim cards and collectors plates, but have only just made back the stall fee each time! We have some items on ebay, but they either don't sell, or sell really slowly. I also have an Amazon business, selling books, but again that only brings in the odd bit of cash now and again, plus there are so many people on there selling books, cds etc for 1p and you just can't compete! I have also tried online surveys, but they are a waste of time and a photography site (Shutterstock), but I have to work out a way to make my images larger, as they wouldn't except them. :(

Question is now, what do I do? Am so stressed constantly and have absolutely no money! Once next month comes, I will be getting bank charges too, then I've got to pay my ever increasing credit card bill etc., etc! It's just making me feel sick! :(
I also have a Barclays select account, which back in Feb I borrowed £1000 from (I have a limit of about £4,000 that I can borrow anytime) which tided me over for while, but now that has gone and I don't think that the bank will lend me anymore, as I have not had any proper wage paid into my account for so long.

Please help!!!!! :(

If you've got office experience, could you get a temping job for a few weeks just to tide you over for a while - I know you hated the office life but perhaps if you know it's not for long you could stick with it and not feel as stressed because of the money?

Can't really advise on selling, but what's the problem with the pictures? To make an image "larger" will depend on the resolution (number of pixels). Your camera should have a setting stating what resolution is used or sometimes the amount of memory used per picture. Adjust that and you should be fine.

If you post up a SOA we may be able to advise on where to save money, but it sounds as though you need a steady income for a while.

I agree with Lillian about the temping. Not the best paid job in the world, but they should hopefully be able to place you fairly quickly.

Edit: Have you tried reclaiming your bank charges or CC charges?

You seriously need to get yourself a job. And quick.

There is loads of stuff you can do. You obviously have get up and go, with all the stuff you have tried.....just put the same energies into finding a job. Anything will do for starters - the job centre will have loads of openings to start you off.

Ebay/Amazon/Markets etc are never going to bring in enough money with all the debt you have. Carry on doing these, but as a sideline. Oh and posting an SOA is a great idea.

You may "hate" work, but it's something that we all have to do to keep a roof over our heads!

As previously suggested office temping could be the answer can not be any more stressful than being in debt !
  • Agree with all the others..

    In the meantime what about
    Delivering ? Papers/catalogue/ phone books
    Avon ?
    Ann Summers parties?
    Virgin Vie parties?
    Tupperware Parties?
    Kleeneeze catalogues?
    etc etc.

Not sure whther there is an outlay first with any of them, never done them only Avon.

    But maybe worth a try??

I agree with what has already been said about temping, most temp jobs are weekly paid too which should held cover your direct debits in the short term.

Just wondered if you claimed any sort of benefits? There is a great website that tells you what benefits you would be entitled too, not 100% certain what it is called but this might be a short term help for you.

  • :T I have just been charged 120 pounds by virgin vie for not selling 500 pounds worth of goods in 8 weeks, even though I sent the kit back, it is a con. Be aware of what you are signing.

Just for the record. There are no upfront fees with Avon. There is a small admin charge but you get everything you need to get going free. There is also a starter kit which you can buy. It is completely optional and is only £10.

I'd try temping. Get yourself signed up at some agencies. Having some money coming in will be a big relief and while you do this you'll have time to think about what you want to do longer term.
