What happened to the "NEW GAS PIPE LINE?

Last year we were told Gas prices were going to come down because the NEW pipe line will be finished!

mmmm hang on - what happened to that? - NOBODY has mentioned that this year with all the prices rises yet that is all they talked about last year
"Dont worry - next year Prices WILL come down because the pipe line will be up and running" - there will be more to go around - it's being pumped in from abroad

So what is the excuse this time? there is a stockade?

The new pipe isnt making any difference to the prices?

Who has the answers - or did I just dream it

There is no need to charge what they do. I for one can not afford it.
Looks like we will be freezing and starving come winter - Ice back on the windows like the Good ole days?

    No - if it's the ;) pipeline ...... it's the one from Norway :

.... which was completed last year. Primary aim to safeguard supplies - but it was meant to stabilise prices. As OP - bit unsure what happened to the last bit, other than that Norway is now very affluent!

Two new pipelines opened last year - one to Norway & one to either Belgium or the Netherlands. There was already one open to Belgium.
No pipe is working at capacity last I heard.
One issue is that on the continent they have always had to store gas so have a larger storage capacity.
We relied on the North Sea so never built much storage.
During the summer demand is less, so gas is cheaper. Much is bought & stored on the continent, and they very nicely sell some of it back to us in the winter at the higher price.
However, as they are all monopolies, with either state ownership or heavy regulation, they don't sell it on an open market - they keep back some which pushes the prices up further.

This isn't helped by the fact that on the Continent gas prices are linked to oil prices instead of being openly traded on its own merits, and the oil price has rocketed.

Various companies are looking at building new storage facilities but planning permissison etc is slowing it down.

Not much we little people can do except cut back where possible, insulate and take advantage of any cheap/fixed deals.
