EEK! Getting married at Gretna Green Blacksmiths workshop...

I've finally done it  . Four years after I asked I've taken the plunge and have booked a wedding at Gretna Green through one of the wedding organisers. We're going for a small wedding - four guests and our toddler flower girl (also need advice on where I can get a gorgeous flower girl dress on a budget!).

They've been brilliant. I sent my deposit yesterday morning and by the afternoon the date was set, car organised and hotel booked - she even phoned the hotel to change our room after discovering that my daughter would be staying with us :). So far it's cost £1700 for everything including the cake, car, flowers, venue, 2 nights accomodation and another £470 for a lovely holiday cottage in the northern lake district so our guests can stay there will we live it up at the hotel! We'll stay at the cottage for the other five days and try and have a honey moon with our daughter. Dress bought on ebay for £65 is enormous but lovely. Just need to find a similar one for daughter and try to resist the idea of putting fairy wings on her!

What I do need help with is:

Where can I buy a lovely flower girl dress for my daughter on a budget she will be age 3-4?

Where can I buy gorgeous fairy wings?

Where is the best place to go for an evening meal after the wedding?

Is the Blacksmiths work shop tacky????

I got married there and Its really pretty. The grounds are nice for pictures and the staff are friendly and very helpful. Have you tried BHS for a dress for your daughter? Also bear in mind its what you do on the day that matters, Facing the person you love and promising to love and care for that person that matters not what sort of venue you are in. It is small and intimate and that just made it all the more special for me.

  • Congratulations! :T I got married at Gretna 20 years ago!!! I don't regret anything about it. The Blacksmith's shop is not tacky - it is very traditional but prepare to be stared at by tourists!! Go for it! By the way, there are several blacksmith's shops all claiming to be the original  so you might want to check them out first.

Can't really recommend anywhere for a meal. We went to the Gretna Chase Hotel which was lovely but I have no idea what it is like now (20 years ago remember) The gardens were lovely for photographs too.

Thankyou. We're going for the blacksmiths workshop at Gretna Hall rather than the old smithy. Are the tourists allowed in the blacksmiths workshop when the wedding is on? That's the reason I didn't book the old smithy :). My partner still thiks we are getting married at comlongon... but I thought that would be too formal with a toddler.

Found a gorgeous dress at debenhams reduced from £60 to £30 and then used quidco, 25% off code and free delivery code so got dress with its matching bolero jacket for £24 :). The only problem is its age 4 and she will only be 3.5

I don't think the size would be much of a problem. I would have bought age 4 as well - you can always take a bit off the bottom but you can't add an extra bit on.

You know how these kids grow like weeds - usually just after you buy school trousers :rotfl:

Will the angel wings fit on the dress? She will look lovely

She loves dressing up as a fairy and I want to make the day as much about her as possible. Impossible to have a formal wedding when this cheeky monkey is racing around.
