Welcome back, mw. Love the niece's advice. Such simple common sense! So just get on with it, OK? lol
Take care of yourself. There seems to be a lot of illness about.Much of the social history of the Western world over the past three decades has involved replacing what worked with what sounded good. - Thomas Sowell, "Is Reality Optional?", 19930 -
Thanks droopsnout - If only it was that easy!!! Quite mad to catch cold, have avoided it uptil now but said niece(s) were full of it so I guess the culprits are easy to spot. Worse actually is because of the cold my ears blocked on the flight home and are still blocked!! This happened two years ago and the day they unblocked was noisy hell. Right now I can't hear the cars in the road outside and that is heaven.
Papers were full today of the predictions for the pound versus the euro and the dollar. Reckons it will be back to normal by mid year. Wish I had their glass ball!!member # 12 of Skaters Club

Well, I hope the papers are right. It would be a great relief, I know that.Much of the social history of the Western world over the past three decades has involved replacing what worked with what sounded good. - Thomas Sowell, "Is Reality Optional?", 19930 -
At risk of seeing my name here too often ...

So good news. Or rather, I think that this is because of negative sentiments about certain continental economies.Much of the social history of the Western world over the past three decades has involved replacing what worked with what sounded good. - Thomas Sowell, "Is Reality Optional?", 19930 -
Oooh, wow, let's hope the rise continues.
If it gets to 1.3, we'll move quite a bit over from savings.
Then we can replenish the savings from the pension.

Good thinking.IMHO if living overseas it's useful to have up to around 6 months to a year's local living costs parked in a savings account in the local currency. It doesn't have to be in a Spansih bank, could be in a Euro account in an offshore UK bank. This is so that you don't have to access sterling at times when the rate is low.
