    Hi, everybody.

A Very Merry Christmas to you all.

No fireworks here (tiny village, where everyone is at their own family "r!veillon"), but here's to Amsterdam one year!!

Hoping that Père Noël brings you everything you were hoping for.

But not the latest exchange rate, which sees the euro at above 96p, and the pound below 1,04€.

  • Droopsnout, that is awful!

Don't think I'll tell my hubby and ruin his Christmas, he's having a bad day anyway.:(

Have you had a nice day so far (Exchange rate permitting)?

Had a lovely lunch at the local restaurant, thank you.

So sorry to read about Mr s-d-w. I do hope things improve quickly for him.

  • Glad you had a nice lunch. We had Aberdeen Angus steak, at home. YUM!!

I'm going to try to drag my husband out to the bar later, with some other people for an hour, he only gets angry or upset otherwise watching the news.

He did come with me this morning to deliver Christmas cards, I'm sure that was better than being stuck in the house.

    Thanks for your good wishes

Yes, well, I think that's a great idea. I'm sitting here watching TV, and Doctor Who has been rubbish!! And now it's "Strictly", and whilst I quite enjoy the real thing, a plastic Christmas version doesn't do anything for me. I just hope the new Wallace & Grommit is good.

  • Hi droopsnout -yesterday's papers were full of the strictly !!!!-up at the Xmas show recording. Had to stop recording in order to rig it!! Switched off Dr Who - and recording Wallace and Grommit. Have my open fire on and it is so hot in the lounge I had to escape to my 'office' for a cool off and to talk to my friends.

Hope hubby is feeling better s-d-w - not a good day to get sick.

I just wonder how bad the pound/euro debacle is going to get. Have some hints on how to make some extra cash - maybe tomorrow - off for my Eastenders fix - yes I love it. Bye for now

  • Well, we went out with the other expats to the expat bar.....it was awful! Some people had been there since lunchtime and they were silly loud drunk, so was the proprietor and she kept flashing her t*ts at everyone and one of the guys who is naturally an extrovert was so drunk he was louder and more in yer face than ever, and the tele was blaring...we hated it!

We stayed an hour and then made our excuses (think we have blotted our copybooks there then) and went down to Bar Donaire, run by the wonderful Amador, who is also an extrovert, but he is funny, charming and entertaining instead of just loud, crude and raucous. His name, Amador Donaire, means (loosley) Lover Charm and he never hesitates to tell any new female acquaintance of this. He is one of the few Spaniards in the village who speaks English, although he only had four years formal education (he also speaks German and Mallorquin, all self-taught). Had a G&T there, explained to Amador why we didn't come into his bar very often these days (he said, when we explained about the £- Euro exchange rate 'that is very serious, no?' We said YES!).

We also were able to socialise with some of our neighbours in our pidgin Spanish and Agustin, who is learning English, kissed us and said 'MERRY CREESTMAS' several times. We are so lucky to have such lovely neighbours.

Much nicer than the Brit Bar.

  • Oh yes... envy you people who have British TV! Our satellite system cost 99 euros from Lidl and the only English-speaking Channels we can get on it are all news!
