my dad is a pensioner on pension credits, and he is selling his home and then he is going to rent a property, just wanted to know if it would be difficult for him, would he be classed as on benefits?

does his LA do properties for pensioners? Some areas have a job finding tenants for these. Could be worth an ask especially if he has any health problems. You do not have to worry about capital, they don't usually ask.
Will he still be eligible for pension credits when he has sold his house?0 -
pension credits would ask about capital though wouldn't they?

he will have some money left over and the gov take so much for every thousand over the 5 thousand max savings.
he will be renting a typical 3 bed house.0 -
i think its £6,000 from the website
When working out the amount of Pension Credit you might get, we don't need to know about any interest or dividends you get from your savings. Instead, we look at the amount of savings you have and count £1 a week as income for every £500 or part of £500 over £6,000. (This figure is over £10,000 if you live permanently in a care home).
The savings and investments we take into account include:- Money in a bank, building society or post office account
- Any savings you or your partner keep at home
- National Savings Certificates and Premium Bonds
- Investments like ISAs and PEPs
- Shares or unit trusts
- Income bonds, capital bonds or granny bonds
- Property and land (but not including the place where you normally live)

yes your dad would be classed as DSS but as a pensioner check and see if this matters to local landlords. Do a ringaround to gauge opinion.
In respect of Pension Credit please please seek professional help to make sure his the tariff income on his savings don't wipe out what pension credit hes entitled to. Check out pension credit calculator online and speak to CAB0 -
Hi there
Just a point about the house he is renting because if he is looking for assistance with the rent they may only pay out for the correct accomodation size so if he is living alone he may not receive a lot of help with the rent for a property larger than he needs. Dont know if that makes sense. I have been advised of the property size i need and have to ask the la before i sign a contract so that they can assess if the house is the correct size etc.
Just something to think about if he is living alone or renting a larger house than needed"The darkness has no answers"0
