Advice please on London travel

Hi,

I am heading to London for the weekend in a couple of weeks.

I havne't been to London for about 5 or 6 years so I'm not really up to speed with transport in the city.

I'd be really grateful if someone could give me advice on the most economical means of transport for:

- traveeling from Gatwick to Central London (on the Friday morning and returning Sunday afternoon).
- travel in mainly Central London all day Friday, Saturday and Sunday - won't be heading far out of Central London. We'll also be hitting clubs at nights so night travel tips are also very welcome :)

Gatwick Express or Standard Train to Victoria.

Then Buy & Top up a Prepay Oyster card, this will allow you to touch in and out of the underground, it caps at a limit and costs much less than buying paper tickets.

At night, use the night buses to get around most run all night.

Also consider a travelcard if you are planning lots of journeys

£17.40 would get you an unlimited 3 day card.

By using a prepay Oyster card, I believe it would be £14.10 for 3 days unlimited travel

I assume the Oyster card can be used on both underground and bus?

As people have said, the Oyster Card is a terrific little invention. :)

I have been out in London a few times as a complete visitor and got th enight buses no problems. :) 90p to go anywhere is a bargain price.

I love London so, so much. :D

Yes fatgit, on both underground & bus, and I think the Dockland Light Railway or whatever it's called.

Just remember you only have to swipe ON a bus, you dont have to swipe OFF like you do on the Tube. My friend didn't know this and kept getting double charged for buses! :rotfl:

BUT, don`t forget to swipe your card when leaving the underground. Take a A-z with you. Central London isn`t all that big and it is often quicker to walk between places than get stuck in traffic.

Unless you are using trains. Oystercard is only for London Transport. If you are not using any normal trains Oystercard is fine.
