I know there are a couple of Halloween threads on here, so please merge this with one if needs be.
But what's everyone's solutions to cheap treats to give out to the little monsters when they bang on the door?

Asda have loads of sweet halloween treats for trick or treaters. Personally i just usually get a big pack of lolly pops or individually wrapped chewy sweets. I never give money.0

I don't agree with Halloween. Its an American thing. Besides the older children that call are not happy with sweets they want money.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4

I wont open the door - let the dog bark!
I do take my kids though, BUT only to pre-informed friends and family and with me and no-one else point blank.0 -
were away last year but someone left a "scary" mechanical spider next to the door... so I'd better stock up.
Cheap lolipops sounds like a good idea. Don't like unwrapped things as I wouldn't like my children to eat them from strangers (not that they are going knocking on door anyway!)I lost my job as a cricket commentator for saying “I don’t want to bore you with the details”.Milton Jones0 -
My OH's solution to this particular problem is to pretend you're out and not to open the door. He then scoffs all the sweets I bought just in case someone did turn up.Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move
Lily contracted Strep B Meningitis Dec 2006  Now seemingly a normal little monster.
Love to my two angels that I will never forget.0 -

Joke apart since when do people give money for treats? Never heard of it (that'd be the day...)I lost my job as a cricket commentator for saying “I don’t want to bore you with the details”.Milton Jones0 -

It's not American. We celebrated it in Scotland but it was a much grander affair with apple dunking and guising and 'doing turns'. Now it seems it's about egging people's houses?
One girl turned up at my house a few years ago dressed in jeans and a t shirt. It was 2 weeks after halloween. She put her hand out and said 'I missed halloween so trick or treat.' Going round scrounging for money at people's doors? I think not!
But I give sweeties to the ones who turn up in costume and are prepared to tell a joke!May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
Can't be doing with it myself. However, Mr TM is Irish and they do Halloween big over there, for some reason
So, he wants the boys dressed up and trick or treating - but they go to about 2 or 3 neighbours houses, all pre-arranged.
A couple of years ago, some teenagers who I'd never seen turned up, so I sent DS1 who was 4, with some apples for themThey went away and I heard one saying that they'd chuck the apple at my house as that was all I'd given them  They didn't.
Last year after the pre-arranged neighbours kids had been, I stuck a note to the door saying baby in bed - please do not callWorked a treat
For treats, I used to buy one of those tubs of Tesco's mini gingerbread men. 10, or is it 20, for £1 or something - cheap treat, even if you give 20 -
I always give them an apple - don't have many callers for some reason!!! Although the very local ones that I know I have a few sweets for.
When this first started in our area (quite a few years ago!) one of the boys in our school who was about 15 had never heard of it and was quite shocked when this little boy knocked on the door of his house - all his family was out and he had no idea what the little boy was on about.
15yr old - so whats this all about then?
7 yr old - well you either give me a treat or I do a trick on you
15yr old - what like a magic trick?
7yr old - no like a nasty trick like knocking your bins over
15 yr old - you better not dare my mum will kill you and I'll make you clean the mess up
7 yr old - well no I wouldn't honest but I have to ask because people always give you a treat then
15 yr old - well that seems ok what sort of treat
7 yr old - well it doesn't matter, nothing big or anything, most people just give us something to eat
15 yr old - ok then and gives him something
So on the bus next day the 15 yr old is still really puzzled about this trick or treating but most of all really really annoyed that the little boy wasn't very grateful for his treat.
So we asked what he'd given the little boy "oh to be fair it wasn't much cos mum hadn't done the weekly shop as usual that day so we didn't have much in but I did manage to find him something to eat so you'ld think he'ld have appreciated it. And after all an oxo cube always comes in handy" :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0 -
We dont do trick or treat.I dont like that kids knock on strangers doors and wait for a hand out. Some of the old people round here, sellotape their letterboxes shut for fear of what might be put through as a 'trick'.
Mine used to go to halloween parties with clubs they belonged to.
Its the same with fireworks,we dont give money for the guy, kids cant buy fireworks now anyway.0
