Halifax current account default

Hi there,

I had a halifax student account default and this has since been paid off monthly from a debt collection agency, they offered a full and final settlement offer in February which I accepted, £90 was knocked off the balance. They have since sent me a letter confirming that it has been paid and the case is closed, but the outstanding £90 is still showing on my credit report. I understand that the default will be on my account 6 years from settlement and while they have got the account open and the balance still noted it isn't getting one month closer to dropping off my file. Does anyone have any advice about how to resolve this, should I write to them or just pay it?

Thanks, Lorna

If you can pay it, do so!
If not then contact the CRA who is showing with and send them a copy of the letter confirming the case is closed - they will investigate then on your behalf.
Remember it can take upto 3 months for some information to be pulled off your CRA, and most DCA are not very fast with removing bad debt.
Your default should be marked as settled on your report also.

Thanks for the advice, I think I will pop into the bank and pay the rest off tomorrow. I just need it to end and would rather have root canal treatment than deal with the debt collectors again!

    Thank you

If your account has already been transferred to a debt collection agency your local branch will not be much help (A/c will probably just show as closed off).
Your best bet is to send the £90 to whoever contacted you about this in the first place.

Didn't think of that! If I go onto digital banking the account is still there, do you think I could I pay the funds in electronically??
