Why are all the supermarkets selling apples from South Africa? Isn't it British apple season now? I love apples but I'm not going to buy them if they've come half way round the world.

Thats globalisation for you.
After reading about Tesco's profits and that the farmers are only getting 7 1/2p for every pound we spend on fruit and veg have started going to local farm shop for fresh produce. Proberley doesnt worl out any cheaper but I get agreat deal of satisfaction knowing am supporting local economy. Also I think the local produce tastes better.

In my organic box this week there was a flyer saying they were now providing an English Variety Apple box all from local growers, cost £7 for 3.5kg apples. The box will provide as many varieties as possible, up to 5.
Organic apples in Sainsburys cost £2.74 per kg and in Tesco £1.99 so I think my organic box is not bad value, they'll be a lot fresher as well - think I've just convinced myself to try a box!0 -
I've got some lovely apples and some blackberries in mine today. I'm nibbling when I'm supposed to be saving them for a&b pie!Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. I don't buy apples unless they're British. If they're not British we're not eating them. It's as simple as that.0
