Alloy wheel help?
Hello everybody, bit of advice needed about a used car.
It's a Golf Avantgarde and has alloy wheels. I went to view it today and noticed some back grimy mottled markings on the alloy wheels. Does anyone know what this could be?
The owner said it was probably oil or something from driving but I have no idea about cars, so could it be something else that's going to cost me a lot of money? It didn't look like rust, it was black. If it is some sort of dirt, what could I use to clean it?
I thought it looked like baked on dirt, but my mum thought it could be more serious. Sorry I have no pictures to show, but any help would be appreciated!

Total abstinence is so excellent a thing that it cannot be carried to too great an extent. In my passion for it I even carry it so far as to totally abstain from total abstinence itself. Oscar Wilde

Most likely tar, was this the front or back or all wheels? Sometimes brake dust will react with the surface, most noticable on the front wheels. The Avantgarde wheels are awkward to cleen so it isnt uncommon. Take some tar spot remover (autoglym is good) and try and remove it - if it comes off - all well and good.Praying at the church of MSE should be compulsory!

Yes, that's what it looked like - a reaction of some sort.

its probably a bit of corrosion, does it look a bit bubbly?
it wont rust as its alloy it will corrode though,if left untreated it could make the wheels look pretty ugly and dirty and also cause slow punctures sometimes....work permit granted!0 -

Looks like an oil on water sort of patternde do-do-do, de dar-dar-dar0 -

Brake dust - no thing to worry about, ALL alloys have brake dust after a few weeks.
Itll wash off easily - youll get it every few eeks build up with alloys.
Dont worry about it:DDELETE ACCOUNT.

Oh good.

It's best to thoroughly clean each wheel with it removed from the car, and then give it a good waxing. Then any brake dust should easily wash off0
