Nowich Union Car insurance

Does anyone know if Norwich Union offer a 14 day cooling off period on their car insurance. I am certain I was told this yesterday and when ringing to cancel today they are refusing to do this without charging me admin charges of nearly £40!

Please help!!!! I cant seem to find anything on their website? Any ideas???

This is from their website, seems that if your insurance has started you have to dedcut the number of days premium your policy has been running +admin charge of £30.45

    Policy Cancellation

You have the right to cancel your policy during a period of 14 days after the day of purchase of the contract or the day on which you receive your policy documentation, whichever is later.
If you wish to do so and the insurance cover has not yet started, you will be entitled to a full refund of the premium paid. Alternatively, if you wish to do so and if the insurance cover has already started, you will be entitled to a refund of the premium paid, subject to a deduction for the time for which you have been covered calculated as a proportion of the time for which the insurance would have provided cover and an administration fee of £30.45 (including Insurance Premium Tax at the appropriate rate) to cover any costs incurred by us in issuing the policy. To exercise your right to cancel your policy, please call 0800 068 3661.
Please also return your certificate of motor insurance.
If you do not exercise your right to cancel your policy, it will continue in force for the term of the policy and you will be required to pay the premium as stated.

This is so unfair, when I initially took the policy out I was told 14 days to cancel, policy started yesterday even though I said today! I got through to the India call centre on three occasions who insisted I have to pay the £30.45. When I asked to speak to a supervisor she refused saying she wouldnt!!!!! I had to hang up, 4th time got through to someone in UK and all i said was I want to cancel my policy and he looked at the account and said no problems madam the policy is cancelled. I asked if I was going to be charged anything and he said no madam as the policy hasnt started!

Indian call centres - don't you just love 'em.

I didn't think they would be allowed to penalise anyone in the 14days cooling off period.

The terms and cons would have been ran past NU legal dept though so it wouldn't be in there if it wasn't legal.

Glad it worked out ok for you.

I bet you won't be rushing to NU in a hurry in the future.

That was the whole problem, they refused to accept there was a cooling off period! I just kept hanging up and ringing until I heard a english accent and thats when the problem was resolved. Shame it had to come to that!

I dont have anything against the indian call centres, its obviously a lack of training! You cant expect to have the consistency through the company when some emplyees are on the other side of the world!!!!

Usually with any company when things dont go right, you ask to speak to the manager/supervisor, I was shocked that the lady wouldnt let me speak to the supervisor, felt helpless, like sticking my hand down the phone and throttling her!!!!

Anyway NO I wont be going back to Norwich Union and am SOOOOO glad i cancelled my policy, as I dread to think what would have happened had I need to make a claim!!!!!!

Just for reassurance I rang my bank not to authorise any payments to Norwich Union, I wasnt going to take any risks!!!

Anyway job done! After a great deal of unecessary stress!
