They just put their prices up by huge percentages whenever they want.

If you think about it, food has been underpriced for many years- just ask the farmers or those who produce it. Guess it was just a matter of time before prices went up. And Sainsburys isn`t the only one- Tescos, Asda etc0

Increases in fuel costs are pushing up prices, which may be partly to blame for these increases."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

They don't have to justify anything and people will keep paying the prices. I used to buy President butter at 99p, but it's gone up to £1.19. I bought another brand.0

theres a whole who ha going on with the supermarkets fixing prices - they up the pricers on the shelf but still pay their farmers/suppliers a measly amount.
i agree though that it isnt just a couple of pence increase.
i went into tesco to get some of their grated mozereella cheese - the previous week it was 98 p , the following week it had jumped to £1.38 !!!0 -
how can they justify it? Well the same with any comodity, if enough people will pay that for it then they will charge that0

i wouldnt mind paying more if it was going to the farmers rather than lining the supermarkets pocketsOther women want a boob job. Honey the only silicone i'm interested in is on a 12 cup muffin tray, preferably shaped like little hearts0

Then shop in your local farmer's market or farm shop instead of a supermarket.0 -
How can Sainsbury's possibly justify increasing prices by such high amounts?
Examples
Greek 0% fat yoghurts were 48p now 64p increase of 33.33%
Raisins were 54p now 79p increase of 46.3%
Peppers (Pack of 3) were £1.29 now £1.48 increase of 14.7%
I'm not buying the yoghurts or raisins anymore on a point of principle as I just don't think there is a good enough reason to increase prices by so much in one go.
It seems to me that supermarkets just cannot lose and increase their prices by as much as they like. One word in the media about food price increases and they just start hiking them up whether the increase are warranted or not.
Grrrrr.
If you think theres so much money in it then why don't you go and run your own shop?
You'll probably be in for a surprise!0 -

She's probably a typical consumer who says these things but doesn't want it to come out of her own pocket, in other words paying double the price which farm shops typically are compared to supermarkets.0 -
I used to buy Galaxy Hot chocolate from Sainsburys at £2.15, I now get it at Morrisons or Budgens at £1.40.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0
