New Cicuit Board For Potterton e80 boiler

Could anyone shed any light on this query?
I have a potterton e80 combi boiler and the programmer wont work, a Gas man said i need a new mother board for it, i can turn it on and off manually.
How much do these cost( Expensive i think)
someone told me it would be better to fit a new boiler??
