British Gas -> e.on, but which one? Should I consider npower?

Hi there

Just put my details into energyhelpline.com with current monthly consumption of £30 Gas and £28 electricity and it gives me 2 e.on capped deals which will cost me £4 a year but will cap prices until 1st Oct 2009.

My first question: is this capping period long enough? There is an npower capped deal that will cost me £93 a year more but is capped until 31st Dec 2010.

My second question: if the e.on capped period is long enough, which of the two identical deals should I go for? Both cost £4 a year more...

Energy Saver 1 - High service ratings
• Extended hours customer contact centres
• Prices capped until 1st Oct 2009
• Free home energy monitor, cancellation fees apply

or

Price Protection Oct 2009 - High service ratings
• Extended hours customer contact centres
• Capped prices till Oct 2009
• No tie-ins or cancellation fees

many thanks for any help

Steve

Don't waste your time entering monthly DD figures, use actual annual kWh consumption.

Looking at past bills it looks like my usage for 1 year is as follows:

    Gas: 807
    Electricity: 2756

According to that nPower comes out top at a yearly usage of £331 but I currently pay £720 a year so I think my figures have gone wrong somewhere but i'm not sure where!?

e.on comes up second which I am more inclined to go with because I was with npower at one time in the past and I found the customer services shocking.

Gas is measured in either hundreds of cubic feet or cubic metres. This then needs to be converted to kWh as this is how you are charged for it. Your figure of 807 is very low!

It was read on 1st March 2007 and was 6377

It was read again on 18th March 2008 and read 7184

I'm not sure how I get from that to a kWh figure to be honest :(

You need to look at the meter to see if it is an imperial or metric meter i.e. cu Ft or cu M then use a converter e.g. here

9,170 kWhs is what I get for Gas now which gives a more realistic yearly spend.

The results still give me the 2 e.on deaks as the cheapest capped service deals, so, are they good ones to go for and if so, which one is better of the two almost identical deals!?

    TIA
  • I think you have summarised the Eon deals yourself haven't you?

1 gives a free electric monitor but has cancellation fees, the other doesn't have the free gift but doesn't have cancellation fees. Personal preference really.

Could always sell the electric monitor on ebay to offset the cancellation charge if you wanted to change in 6 months or so, they are £30+ on ebay at the moment. If you really want the monitor that is, if you don't want it don't get tied in

Is the capping until October 2009 sufficient though or should I be risking nPower to get an extra year of price capping, albeit for a higher (about £80)annual cost?

I would trust those CON merchants at E.CON as far as I could throw them. I changed from NPower last October only because their night rate on E7 was cheaper.

The price rise in Feb 11.5% so 2.44p +11.5% not bad leave the heating on. Then a letter came around April night rate had gone up to 4.55p an 80 odd % increase wrote to them made no difference contacted the chocolate fireguard company known as Enerywatch waste of time.

Then the bill arrived I was on ElectricityGuarantee Plan and all E.CON have done is change my plan to ElectricityPlan 4 a nice way of upping the prices. Be aware
