gas boiler quotes

I've got 2 quotes to replace my traditional boiler with a condensing combi. Both seem a bit steep - £3,200 - £3,400.
When I suggested to one of the Installers that a reduced cost could be obtained by claiming a grant through the 2 regional schemes available - Magic Boiler and Green-Boilers.co.uk, he laughed !
Any views and advice would be great.

Isn't most of the cost because of the plumbing changes from changing from traditional to combi? In which case, why are you making this change?

Need boiler replaced due to age ( 20 years old ) and redsigning kitchen.
Yes some of the cost is the cost to change from old to new system and getting rid of emersion tank and header tanks.
But when adding cost up new boiler comes in with discount at @£800, with full flush at @£300 - still seems expensive quote to me?
