Screen holders are now siliconed on the shower side and outside, so unless water is getting in from the top I don't see how the ywill fill with water.

Sorry, you are not with me. You nee to physically remove the shower screen from the holders and put silicon into the bottom of the holder where it meets the shower tray. At the moment water is getting between the holder and screen as it is metal against metal and not sealed.

Sorry Phill, I'm still not understanding.

The glass sits on a metal strip and the silicone now goes from the shower tray over the metal strip.

I had a problem with our en suite shower leaking that I couldnt seem to cure even though I had removed the silicon and resealed it a couple of times. As soon as someone had a shower it would still leak water from under the glass. I had to in the end strip the silicon off then leave it to completly dry out for a couple of days then wipe all around the shower with white spirit to get rid of any dirt or grease, leave it again for a day to dry out again and then reseal it and not use the shower for twenty four hours to let the silicon fully dry. This seems to have done the trick. The few times before I had not let the shower dry out completely even though it did seem dry and so the silicon would not take to the plastic correctly. It may be worth trying this before putting holes in the ceiling etc. I am guessing that you diy guy has not left the unit to dry out fully when he has reapplied the sealant.

Hi, Silvercar... is the shower tray absolutely level and adequately supported? More help with pictures is available here and here . The OH is working away so you're stuck with the second banana on this one;)

    An update.

Attempts to remove the glass screens failed as the screws holding them in place have corroded and won't budge.

But we have narrowed down the problem, water is escaping between the glass and the metal trim (you could be right Phill), how it gets from there to under the tiles is anyones guess but as we can't remove the glass from the metal strip we have no way of finding out.

The DIY guy has now put a layer of silicone sealent between the glass and the metal strip in the hope that this stops the water escaping.

Now waiting for the silicone to dry for 24 hours before testing.

Have also taken two tiles off the floor where the grout was continually getting soaked to reveal some interesting wet rot for those interested in fungi!

Now waiting for the wood to dry out too.

    UPDATE:

Shower looks to be completely sealed now, sealant from glass to metal strip to shower tray. (Thanks Phill99, now understand you).

The leak has reduced by 99%. :)

The boards outside the shower are drying out nicely. :)

CAn't work out where that little remaining leak is coming from, if it will get worse and if its worth investigating further.

Really don't want to take the tiles off the wall. Now thinking of putting a hole in the garage ceiling to see where the damp is coming from and filling the whole with a ventilation grid, so at least this last little leak can dry out.

I know the correct thing is to find the leak, but I'm fast running out of places to look!

  • Thanks Phil99, your advice about the gap at the bottom of the channel that is fixed to the tiles was the cause of my leaking shower. Once the panel was taken out of the wall fixing the gap was there to see. All sealed up now!
