Rising Fuel Costs - Company Car
Hi Please can someone advise me. I work for a relativley small company and we get a company car - Peugot Diesel 308. Currently we pay for all our mileage, business and personal, and for any business mileage we claim this back at a rate of 15p a mile.
Im sure we are loosing out due to the rise in fuel, would we be better off is the company went for a fuel card scheme, I understand that this would be liable to additional tax as its a benefit, but would we actually be better off???
Hope someone can help?

As a general rule of thumb a standard tax payer can expect to pay around £50 per month for a fuel card.
You could always offset this by making a contribution towards your personal fuel consumption.0 -
Because I'm tracking MPG and fuel costs on my car I can tell you the following off the top of my head.
My car is doing 46mpg, with diesel priced at 125.9p per litre it works out at 12.7p per mile on fuel alone.
I would guess you get similar MPG from the Pug 308, so 15p per mile should be covering it even with further increases in fuel price.
What MPG do you measure calculating by actual fuel used and miles covered and not any MPG computer the car might have?0 -
Thanks for the info, I havent actually started to calcuate actual mpg, but will monitor it for a month and see what i get.
it puts my mind at rest though knowing that we shouldnt be losing out.0
