Survey fees???

Any Ideas?? Put in for a mortgage via the Alliance and Leicester, received call via financial advisor to say mortgage had been accepted approx. 3 weeks ago.
Paid solicitor for survey fees, survey conducted some 10 days later. Fees taken from account. Another phone call from F.A telling us A & L no longer able to give us mortgage!!! F.A now put us on with Halifax and apparently we are at the same stage we would have been with A & L looking to move in 3-4 weeks.

Q1. Was F.A telling porkies, had we in fact been accepted?
Q2. Can the A & L simply change their mind this far in?
Q3. Will we get our survey fees refunded?
Q4. Will we get a copy of the survey we paid for and will we have to get another survey done?

Advice please!!

  • Normally, surveyor is only instructed after the basic application has been approved. I guess either something came back on the survey, or your history.

Your FA should be asked to explain why the change occurred.
  • Found out A & L wouldnt take certain monies into account.
Received survey today, F.A applying for refund on survey (normally refunded upon completion) so fingers crossed.
So far so good with Halifax!
