student + job = tax????

    It just means you are being taxed on the 'emergency' tax code so you either didn't have a P45 or your payroll chose to ignore it (like mine did) you are probably paying more tax than you should be, even if you are earning over the threshold, when taxed on a week 1 basis so it might be worth giving your tax office a call to check it out. If you are reclaiming at the end of the year, they say it takes 6 weeks ish to process, I will let you know if this is the case for me (I'm not holding my breath though)

    I'm glad I found this thread as I was thinking exactly the same.

    I've recently filled out the R85 form for interest not to be taxed on my savings.

    Do I ask my employer for the P38 form when I start my summer job?

    yes - but i'm not sure all employers have them, so you may just need to go to the website and print one off. best to get it done right at the start, so that nothing gets taxed in the first paycheck.
