Direct Line Loan - Overpayment

Options
On returning home from work yesterday, I read the days mail over tea, as you do. There was an envelope from Direct Line; nothing unusual in that, I have my house, car and life insurance with them. Imagine my surpise however, when I read the letter, and its informing me that when I settled my outstanding loan in 2003, there had been an overpayment. It didn't say how much of an overpayment, but there it was, in black and white ... an overpayment.

I have duly rang Direct Line this morning to politely enquire how this could have happened. It turns out that when I settled my loan in full (part of my redundo money in 2003), a normal monthly payment was also taken the next day. Apparently, this was an oversight and was only discovered whilst auditing completed loans recently.

With poorly concealed glee, I asked how much the overpayment was. Two years after I had completed the loan, they are refunding me a months payment, £119.04, plus £20 inconvenience money. Result!

Can't say that I feel inconvenienced right about now. I can't believe it to be honest.

A big pat on the back for Direct Line from me. Very happy indeed today.
Debt-free as of 01.10.08. I will never have a CC again and I'm "in the black"
