DFS - Payment Protection

Options
I bought a sofa from DFS a few years ago when moving to a new house. The payments are £46 pm due to end June 06 so I got the paperwork out last night - thought I'd give them a call for a settlement figure. Anyhow, I noticed that included in my £46 pm payment is £5.15 (!!!!) pm payment protection insurance (over 3 years). Now, although my signature is on the credit agreement I really feel like I've been duped as when you look at all the figures it mentions the cost of the sofas everywhere and then says 36 payments of £46. I would never have agreed to pay for PPI. It feels like I've been victim of a sort of "slight of hand" magic trick.

I wondered if anyone else had had the same experience or is it just me ;)

Thanks

You just have to read things more carefully. DW got caught with something similar a few years back. It was only when she brought the form home and I read it that I realised that she was paying a significant amount for payment protection. The joke is that she is a housewife, it would never have paid out for her in the first place. I quickly phoned the firm up and got it removed ... she was that pleased I even got an extra slice of chicken for my dinner that night :D

Well..yes I know that. I never do take them (altho I have mortgage PPI). It's just that everywhere on the paperwork it shows the cost of the sofas and then underneath the cost it shows 36 x £46 - I didn't have a calculator to check that that equals the costs of the sofas...just assumed he was right. As far as I was concerned when I signed the agreement I was signing for the cost of sofas divided by 36 months.

Anyhow...I will certainly be more vigilant from now on :D
