What is PAYE ref no?

I have just signed off JSA and want to claim TC.

I did claim a little while ago but that has been stopped now, so on the phone they said I dont needto put in new claim form just tell them PAYE ref no. start date and estimated income.

I am self employed and employed (12hrs) week.

Any replies very much apreciated.

I got mine from my employer, and he said it is their inland revenue code for anything tax related and came with all the bumpf from his tax office when he took over the business. It's basically just the reference number they identify you by.

I imagine every self employed person would have one. You could give your tax office a call and ask?

For the Self Employed you will have a UTR code instead which should be on the correspondence you have from the tax office in relation to your self employment however it's quite reasonable for it to be several months before you get one.

Your employer will have a PAYE code that'll be in the form of 123/456C and that's what you need.
